Dragon Quest creators directly reference Wizardry as an inspiration: The series was an amalgamation of the top down exploration of Ultima with the combat from Wizardry. I couldn't really get into the series until I tried the Japanese offshoots of Wizardry for the PS2. I highly recommend them for anyone interested in Wizardry.
