So recently I've been playing through Wild Woody and I'm enjoying pretty much everything about it, besides the gameplay. It's no secret that the level design, platforming and combat of the game is very clunky, while pretty much everything else is really good. So personally I'd love to see a remake or even a new game with better gameplay and the same crazy energy that the original Wild Woody has. Does anyone else think this lead head deserves another chance, or should he stay stuck on the Sega CD? and that one kart racer, if you know you know ::eyebrows

It feels like such a product of its time with the obnoxious in-your-face humor and Jim Carrey soundalike. The drawing and erasing mechanics are sort of quaint, but the idea and setting is just so weird and far-fetched that I don't really see a point in reviving it.
Maybe one of those semi-ironic cheap remasters like the Bubsy ones, but I don't think Wild Woody was ever franchise potential.
"Only if they sell a zillion units."

It would be really funny if they do a remaster but don't change anything to maintain the Wildness of the original game

That's fair, it is definitely a product of it's time, and I also agree it didn't have much in terms of franchise potential. I do think it had more potential than Bubsy at least lol.
Though personally that far-fetched and weird idea and setting is partly why I'd like to see at least a remake one day. To mainly fix some of the gameplay problems so the other parts of the game can be enjoyed more.

Do you know about the topless mermaid?
That was the first thing I ever learned about the game many years ago lol

The music is certainly wild. I think every song needs a grunt solo moving forward.
Every song in existence would instantly be improved if they had a grunt solo

I forgot about this game and it always feels like a fever dream.
Lol, it is like a fever dream especially with the plot and cutscenes, but a really funny one at that despite its issues. Have you ever listened to the soundtrack? Bumblefoot did a fantastic job with it imo

From an interview I read some time ago with a tester for the game, they kind of just went nuts with the game's development because they knew that it was gonna go straight to bargain bins, being that the Sega CD was on its last legs. Perhaps this would explain why the game is the way it is.
Also, fun fact, the manual for the game strangely has handling and safety warnings for a Saturn game instead of a Sega CD game, as well as many screenshots showing debug information adjacent to the standard HUD.

That explains a lot about the game, I'll have to give that interview a read when I have a chance, thank you!
Also I didn't know that about the manual that's very strange
