I am currently planning on buying a Wii Remote and a sensor bar so I can simulate light guns. Not just wii light gun games, but also other consoles like PS2 (Time Crisis, Point Blank, etc.) The way I want to do this is, of course, through mouse emulation using the Wiimote pointer.

But is the dolphin bar necessary if I want to do that? It's quite expensive where I come from, and I was wondering if a normal USB Sensor bar will do just fine. Thank you in advance.

the wii sensor bar is nothing more than 2 infrared lights, you probably have heard about people using candles instead

any wii sensor bar will do no need to buy an expensive one

It's a decent experience faking a light gun with a wiimote but as you're more or less forced to use the on screen sights it's not really the same.

I got sick of it and bought a sinden light gun which if used with Batocera is pretty much plug and play.

I wouldn't try and use it on windows however as it seems like it's a world of faff...faff is something I cannot abide and I seek to eliminate it from my life.

But anyway back to your point, no a dolphin bar is not needed, you can get USB sensor bars from Amazon that work really well, again through Batocera though, I wouldn't want to connect a wiimote to windows, it lacks drivers and you have to faff.
