Why? Why did they cook so hard? Why did they fillet this fish? Why did they cook a 5 star meal? It's FISHING. It should not be incredible.

I'm playing this WITHOUT THE ROD. Even without the rod, this game is goated beyond belief. My Dreamcast is, unironically, a fishing console most of the time, because I'm playing this nearly daily.

I think people hype the rod a little too much, the real main thing that sucks with using a controller is you have to alternate L/R triggers to reel in the fish, other than that its really not that bad using a controller instead of the expensive rod.

Hehehe, bass.

I'll see myself out.
Bass Brainrot.

Uhhh... I've been using only one trigger. I might be stupid.

Hmm.... do you play with gloves? Or are you even ashamed to show us your hand? Welp, maybe you're right after all: there are some hand fetishists around here... ?

It's good because it's a frenetic arcade action game made by Sega, so of course it's good!

i don't have any particular interest in fishing. i don't like going outside much. i can't even eat fish.
sega bass fishing is one of the greatest games that sega has ever made or had on one of their consoles. it sits side-by-side with skies of arcadia at the top.
why?
i would say that being quick to get into, lots of re-playability, and not being too long help make it a good game. games don't have to be 500+ hours long with overly complicated stories, world, characters and lore to be good. you need to have fun playing it.
but that stuff is about 20% of the reasons.
the other 80%?
the narrator. he is one of the best hype man ever. hearing him say, "it's coming near." "bite it!" "IT'SON THE HOOK!" "Pull the rod right!" "Oh, nice. that's a big one! time bonus." it adds something special to the game. that it is not just you and the guy in the boat; there's someone there cheering you on, adding to the excitement.
i have a couple of fishing games, legend of the river king 1 and big bass fishing. river king is short, and has some hype, but its better aspect is building atmosphere. big bass fishing, i never finished. i think i made it to the second area, and got bored. that has to be saying something when the main character is a hot chick in shorts and has cheesecake pics in the loading screen. not even close enough to salvaging the game. it's also pretty quite, even when you are reeling in a fish. sega bass fishing and river king play some music and sound effects to bring some tension to the scene.
those are my thoughts on why this game is a 6 star meal.

bass... fishing....

There's a handful of game series i don't really touch since they don't seem interesting enough. Fishing, and wild hunting are two of them.

most of them are boring. sega bass fishing is more quickly paced and is exciting, like i mentioned in my post. one play though would last about 20 minutes.

Sega was really pushing for fishing on the Dreamcast. Even before the fishing rod peripheral, they created Big the Cat and his lame ass levels in SA. Anyone think Seaman might've gotten some influence from this?

my dad and I used to play the shit out of this ps1 game called Action Bass when I was a kid. then we went to my uncle's house and he had both Sega Bass Fishing games on Dreamcast and the rod and it blew Action Bass out of the water (pun intended) it never quite hit the same after that.

Yeah, they made so many bangers out of mundane jobs you'd never think could be gameified - fisherman, cab-driver, trucker, EMT, Firefighter, commercial airline pilot. Absolute geniuses

PLEASE LET SEGA DO THIS KIND OF THING AGAIN!

Maybe they’ll use the Yakuza series to make new arcade games if somebody in the company has an idea? A massive long shot, but maybe.

SEGA was releasing pure gold around the late 90s/early 2000s. It was a generational run. SEGA Marine Fishing is also really good btw

This is an amazing statement. There should have been an advertisement with a dreamcast as bait.

Sega were just great at this. They could have made an arcade knitting game and it'd be hailed as one of the best arcade games of all time.

The real question is why they didn't put it's sequels on Steam when it was up, cause you're telling me there is a Sega Bass Fishing 2 and a Sega Marine Fishing?!

Marine Fishing is even better. It’s possibly one of the best games on Dreamcast.

Bass Fishing 2 is the most rare. The U.S. copy fetches a pretty penny. You could say it’s the one that got away.

Oh, and in Marine Fishing, you can catch a shark.

Enough said.
