i don't have any particular interest in fishing. i don't like going outside much. i can't even eat fish.
sega bass fishing is one of the greatest games that sega has ever made or had on one of their consoles. it sits side-by-side with skies of arcadia at the top.
why?
i would say that being quick to get into, lots of re-playability, and not being too long help make it a good game. games don't have to be 500+ hours long with overly complicated stories, world, characters and lore to be good. you need to have fun playing it.
but that stuff is about 20% of the reasons.
the other 80%?
the narrator. he is one of the best hype man ever. hearing him say, "it's coming near." "bite it!" "IT'SON THE HOOK!" "Pull the rod right!" "Oh, nice. that's a big one! time bonus." it adds something special to the game. that it is not just you and the guy in the boat; there's someone there cheering you on, adding to the excitement.
i have a couple of fishing games, legend of the river king 1 and big bass fishing. river king is short, and has some hype, but its better aspect is building atmosphere. big bass fishing, i never finished. i think i made it to the second area, and got bored. that has to be saying something when the main character is a hot chick in shorts and has cheesecake pics in the loading screen. not even close enough to salvaging the game. it's also pretty quite, even when you are reeling in a fish. sega bass fishing and river king play some music and sound effects to bring some tension to the scene.
those are my thoughts on why this game is a 6 star meal.
