It's more a question than a suggestion. I don't know why it defaults to this (if there is an objective reason then it's fine, I suppose). That said, do auto merges generate new message alerts? if they don't, maybe they should.

yeah, you get a new alert about auto merges as soon as you make a new post. you don't get an auto merge if there is at least one post from another person between your two posts.

Well, okay then. I had the impression auto merges didn't generate alerts. I guess I just missed them.

probably. you might also be not meeting the conditions. someone might make a post before you send off your next one. it would be insane timing, but weirder things have happen.

And wierder things are yet to happen, I'm sure.

Anyway, I guess this can be closed. I'll keep an eye out for message alerts. Thanks.

why would someone farm posts?
Multiplaye reasons, actually:

In the past, ranks and other things were seen as forms of "status", with people spamming like crazy to get to the bigger ranks. It got so bad that some forums hid the post counts altogether.

Here and on other modern boards? A lot of features are tier-based, and can only be unlocked after leveling up. It's a genuine thing that's been a part of boards for as long as we have had them.

I'd say so they could feel "all that" or "popular" since they'd have the most messages on here, though I'm sure that would go to their head.

"My post count is bigger than yours! (Please don't look into my pants)"
Situation.
hmm... seems rather pointless to me. but then again; i don't think i have a problem making posts. and quality is far superior to quantity, in every regard.

Definitely, but I guess you are younger than me.

Flexing those ranks was half the reason we went on to 2004-8 boards. vBulletin kinda killed that, once it was about the reputation score (different poison).

i'm in my early 30's and didn't really get into computers and later, the internet, until my 20's.

Can't decide whether you are lucky or not XD You missed out on some crazy stuff, and also on some of the absolute worst things ever.

i mostly browsed youtube and devianart along with newgrounds. that started back in about 2012, 13. somewhere around that time.
