Why is all the really cool video game stuff always Japan only?

As usual the US ( where I am) and everywhere else gets boned. I would like to explore more, please share some examples.

Because Japan treats the medium as an artform and America still treats it like that weird thing for kids. It's a little better now but pre-2000 they gave it no respect.
 
Because they aren't afraid to try and aren't handcuffed by abstract concepts -- they know items will find their audience, however small it may end up being and also know that there is such a thing as cult classics... Even if something flops initially, it may resurface later and be a huge hit, like Chargeman Ken or Urikupen Kyjuotai, the first anime I ended up loving.
