Why does the kingdom hearts 2 final mix english patch has graphics inverted for the button prompts?

I know in the US, kingdom hearts uses X to attack/confirm and O to cancel and that it's different in Japan, but the patch uses graphics and texts that switch those two (O for attack/confirm and X for cancel) even tho they use the US button prompts.

Is there any way to change that? It's really confusing me during gameplay.

I'm not sure, maybe there's an optional addendum for this. I'll look around a bit, but no promises.

Going into the controller button config and swapping the two buttons is probably the best you're gonna get. The translator probably didn't take into account the change in the Japanese control scheme.

Thanks for going out of your way to find a solution! But, unfortunately, I'm playing on original hardware 😞

Thanks for trying to help! But, I'm using a original ps2, so I don't think there's an way to remap it...

Yeah, original hardware would be a problem. I know it's not much consolation but you end getting used to it.

Are you playing on official hardware using a backup of the game through OPL? You might also be able to patch the ISO directly by using the link that Rage sent, saving the codes as a .pnach file, then using a tool like PS2 Pnacher.

I haven't tested something like this myself - just throwing an idea out there.

That's true. Great avatar by the way! didn't know you were a Shiren fan.

Thanks! I thought after hitting level 3 I should probably switch up after using Goku for so long - Shiren has always had one of my favorite character designs, and Shiren 5 is one of my favorite games.

OPL may also have a built-in cheat manager, but I unfortunately can't recall the specifics at the moment. I could probably check within the next day or so if what I mentioned can work.

Update: I got the cheats to work, which successfully swapped the X and O buttons. I use MX4ISO to play my backups on OPL, but the steps should be the same if you use USB or HDD to play backups.

Step 1: Converted the .pnach files to RAW Code, and found the Master Code for KH2FM (I have already done this for you)

Step 2: In OPL manager on your PC with your SD card (the SD should be the one that has all of your .iso files) inserted into the PC, select KH2FM and select "Cheat Editor". If OPL asks to make a cheat file, select yes.

Step 3: Inserted the codes into the Cheat Editor, and hit Save. The attached image below is what my Cheat Editor info looks like. Note that my directory is \CHT\SLPM_666.75.cht, which is the required directory for the code to work on the PS2.

Step 4: You can then insert your SD/USB/device your using back into your PS2. Go into OPL on your PS2, and find KH2FM on there. Select Triangle (to open the Options menu), go to cheat settings, and set PS2RD Cheat Engine to "On" and "Auto Select Cheats". I keep my settings mode to "Global" personally, as well.

Step 5: Back out of the Cheat Settings menu, and make sure to press "Save Changes". You can then go back to your games list to select KH2FM with the cheat enabled.

To make things easier, you can just copy-paste the included .txt file into the cheat editor. You still need to go through OPL in order for the codes to work, however.

@DianeInsetinha Hopefully you are using OPL. If you aren't, let me know, and I can see if I can still help.

This is gonna sound like absolute insanity to you, but I just spent a few HOURS trying to make this work with my phone because I didn't want to let your efforts go to waste. Lol

It's 3 am, I'm gonna see if I can finish this tomorrow.

Let me know where you're having issues if you're feeling stuck - you can also DM me if need be! Rest is important, for sure!
