It featured limited inventory management, puzzle-solving at the core of the gameplay, and tank-style movement all mechanics that Resident Evil later reused. [U]Shinji Mikami[/U] himself [U]admitted[/U] that [I]Alone in the Dark[/I][U] served as a reference[/U] during Resident Evil 1 development. So in a way, the French were actually ahead of the Japanese in this genre. Without Infogrames ’[I]Alone in the Dark'[/I], Resident Evil probably wouldn’t exist in the same form we know today.
