Why are all of the buttons for formatting greyed out (at least on PC)?

Whether commenting or making a thread, these buttons have been unusable for as long as I've been on the website. Sometimes when I access the site from mobile they are available though so it leads me to believe it is an issue with my browser? I use Edge, if that helps. I'm pretty terrible at remembering how to format posts and such so I always found the buttons useful throughout my 15+ years on various forums lol

That's strange. I've never had an issue with that. I'm using Brave.
They look like this to me:

I'm using Firefox, no problems on my end either.

it's probably edge. i don't think many people use it. most probably use google or firefox or other browsers. what do you use to access the site on mobile?

I know that formatting buttons stop working when you enter preview mode (it's the first button from the right) so maybe that's what's happening somehow?
