Once I accepted that you couldn't win (the hint book was fairly clear on this) I was left demoralized, realizing that I had the bulk of the game ahead of me with a mostly-underdeveloped party. And, oh yeah, the enemies have now gotten substantially stronger! And the remaining dungeons are tougher than ever! And you just lost your best character - along with all their equipment! Yeah.
