Does any one remember the SMT mmo called Imagine? it was a short lived MMO released in 2007 and went on officially till 2012 / 2014 in some regions.

It had the same look at SMT Nocturne, and played pretty well. They may have reused assets?

Kind of felt like final fantasy 11 in some ways imho, which might be related to the time frame it was released, and perhaps that was the point of reference for MMOS for Japanese developers a the time?

Might just be the time frame, but i miss it and had a lot of fun, i never got to finish this game, and i have regretted it since this day.

Does any one remember it? What was your experience?

Do you think another SMT / Persona MMO would work today?

I feel like there was a other thread on this, just a few days ago.

Anyway, I don't think it's work well enough to stay up as long as Imagine did. Not because it wouldn't be popular, but because there's a lot more competition in the genre of "game that is designed to eat all of your time."

I remember wandering around the game collecting vendor trash, achieving not much of worth and secretary Lucifer.

Had No idea, i will look this up, do you know if it was under SMT Imagine?

Might be my nostalgia then, as i do remember it being gindy, and that might be why i didn't finish it.

I remember playing it. I liked the fact it adhered closely to the aesthetics of classic SMT, but the combat was a little boring, as were the areas. All you had were instanced dungeons and an overworld that was mostly sand... hmm where have I seen that before.

Could it be akin to other SMT games? I know Nocturne had a similar vibe, but that was not an MMO. Could this type of setting not be a good fit for MMOs?

Yeah, that's probably it. I mean, a destroyed world is pretty standard fare in SMT, but a destroyed world with places to go and things to see is very different from a destroyed world that is just... well nothing.

Good point, i wonder if they could have made it more like SMT5, as that world was pretty populated with demons and the like, all be it destroyed.

I am starting to wonder how it would work? Could mystery game mechanics be added to make it more interesting?, Like finding ways to interact with the deserted area, which do in fact contain spirits and the like. Perhaps you cannot even see people above your level unless you get to theirs (10 levels above and you lose ability to interact).

Definitely more thought should have gone in to the game and how the player could interact with others in the world. But alas, probably would not make money in 2025, not unless your data is being scrapped or you buy a battle pass / pay for loot boxes..

Yeah, that's pretty much a fact, there. I don't know how familiar you are with the other games but there are still buildings left and those that survive continue to get buy. Imagine a post nuclear world, Fallout-ish, if it helps, that's how I think it should be.

Yeah fallout-ish sounds like a good way to explain what is needed. Do you know if fall out has mysterious ghost area? I know 3 had the ufo space ship which could be investigate.

Nah, sorry. While I know my way around SMT, I can't say the same for Fallout.
Let's brain storm then, i am sure we can come up with better idea.
Have you played SMT 1 and 2? As i believe there was a mechanic i described within it (cannot interact or see anything unless you have an item or are a curtain level), or am i thinking about strange journey?

Like you turned up at an area, and you find nothing, may be just some noises, or a puzzle to solve.

Do not know why i am thinking of Ghost wire Tokyo / Tokyo Twilight Ghost hunters all of a sudden.

I have, but yes, you are thinking Strange Journey, there. You can only scan certain phenomena with the right upgrades on the Demonica.

Strange journey on the DS was epic imo. I still got the 3ds version, which made a lot of things easier, but i loved that game so much back in the day. Would the mechanics work in new SMT / MMO games?

I consider SJ to be peak classic SMT as far as mechanics go. It manages to blend the old and the new really well without being punishingly hard on one's choices (like SMT3 is). I haven't had much time with SMT5 yet, and it does a lot of things right (demon designs after the downer 4 was, at least IMO) but I felt the open world-ish format was a mistake. It should have been a more focused, tailored game world.

Considering SJ is based on confined areas, I think they would work well as instanced dungeons in a MMO, just randomize the layout/drops and you have the start of something good.

IMAGINE is based on the cancelled online version of SMT NINE
In that Nine tried to be an online game, sure. But beyond that i do not see it.
I have a copy of nine, and while Imagine may have picked up the peaces of it, it is not the same game by any means. Presentation is totally different for one.

Nine was an absolute mess, and a odity. I got my hands on it from a friend who took a trip to Japan, We play it every now and again to just try and get though it, it is in interesting piece of history.
