Elemental Gimmick Gear (EGG) was an RPG partially made for the Saturn, with project moved to the Dreamcast as the Saturn was unceremoniously drooped which where problems for other reason, which losing consumer confidence in company hardware being a major one..

But EGG! For me, this was an good RPG which while looking dated, had a wonderful story to explore, and an interesting battle system. It was not innovative by any means, but for the time, what it did have played well, and was worth the experience imho.

Have you heard of Egg? What was your experience of it? Did you like it?

Please feel free to add to the conversation.

I will take it, i know this game is very very niche, and i know i have to work on my writing. So, thanks for posting!

I know the game, I have it but I never played it.
Would you consider giving it a try? What stopped you from wanting to pick it up?

I've seen it around for years. Looks interesting. Not been able to get around to it, though.
One of the selling points for me is that Ryuichi Sakamoto was said to have contributed to the game. So that's pretty dope.

The game looks super cool. I've never played it but I'm currently sitting on a copy.
What would help to put this on your list for games to play this year?

Considering Ryuichi Sakamoto involvement, what else would motivate you to give this game a try?

Do you guys have a back log list for this year? I know this was something that was posted in January, and i want to lobby for this to be on it if people have them, as i would like to spark up a conversation about this game, as it is a shame that classics like this do not get more attention.

It's got a cool overall style and it seems like some really original thought went into gameplay ,so it seems pretty cool all-around.
Sakamoto is like a cherry on top.

It probably already is, to be fair. My backlog is massive, but I've been really hankering to spend some time with the Dreamcast again, and Elemental Gimmick Gear was already up there on that list.

It's one of the very few 2D action RPGs I could never get into. The controls are weird, the robot staggers around drunkenly all the time. I dropped it twice.
Not sure what you mean by Sega jank. It was made by Birthday, the makers of the Super Shell Monsters Story series and some NES RPGs like Juvei Quest (a few of them have fan translations).

Their usual publisher was Hudson Soft.

Ryuichi Sakamoto is not in the game's credits at all. Maybe he did something behind the scenes? The credited composer is Haruyoshi Rokudo, who worked for Birthday.

Hmm.. It might be related to the era then, as i already (being a sega supporter back in the day) associated this experimental style of game play with sega. Another reason is the way it plays like many others did on the dreamcast, so may be that dreamcast jank would be more appropriate?

What would help you look past the controls and tough it out? As i would imagine that the controls (for me anyway) represented how tough controlling a mech would be. (i might have been thinking to much about it, but it did help. )

Saw this one on some Game Sack episodes. looks fun!
Would there be anything that would want to make you give it a try? What would add it to your list?

Sure! I could emulate it! Have my hands full on other games though.

just saw this thread now

one of the last games I bought for Dreamcast, along with PSO v.2, Headhunter n Euro Shenmue II
\0/ The man! Please tell me you have played this! \0/
Please give some feed back on your experience with it if you so wish. What was your experience?

Also, if you do not mind me saying, you look like Leon Kennedy from the top half, ever that or a Dean Winchester, which makes this photo look more epic.

yes I've started on it, but only in emulation. aLL 3 of meh Dreamcasts have broken laser from the CD-R's that we had no idea was gonna wreck the console at the time

I don't mind that kinda thing. everybody here I'm sure has at least some fleeting resemblance to a vidgame char or 2 (or 3? o _ O) I basically had to be seen cuz even up super-close - it's only a CD-case size object so the background behind it gets its 15 min of shame xD

^^/ All good! How are you finding the controls? Did you find a config that worked for you? Did the controls put you off?

Regarding your Dc's stick some GDEMUs in them, or other GDROM emulators in there, and you can still use them. I am a massive advocate for saving hardware from the junk heap. Still life in those babes!

controls are fine so far, I don't expect a cLunky mech-thing to move like Sonic the Edgehog lol - it was charming enough startin out - from what I remember I explored the town tiLL some rival mech-rider crashed into me or somethin n challenged me to a fight. I'm not sure how much farther I got as I don't remember atm but it's definitely in my queue of games to commit to tackling/finishing!

how do I get the data to the DC? both my current laptops are sans CD/DVD drive -_- digital formats trend-takin over the future fast lol

I loved EGG when i played it, the music is amazing, though i do think the story is kinda stupid in the second half.

I love the watercolor artstyle as well, if i was to say my 1 dislike of it, it's the short range of attacks.

There are many ways, with one being a dc mem card manager software that allows you to transfer saves from pc to VMU, i am sure you can find stuff on here. I know there are forums that exist with a whole bunch of tutorial, any one can chime in here as they may know more then me on this subject, as it has been some time since i have worked on dreamcast, and i would have to look at my archive which could take ages.

Give it a chance, that stupid feeling subsides and you get a massive plot drop that makes it all fit. Well it did for me anyways.

I've beaten EGG, i know the ending
The final boss REALLY sucks for me, also the fact the final boss music is a calming piece really doesn't fit the situation for me, not to mention how so much of the story is left unanswered, i'm also not a big fan of the ending, can never return to earth, even though the moonbase is so far advanced than earth, a space shuttle or teleporter isn't possible, but immortal humans are?
Yeah ok, sorry it's just never really worked for me, though at least the dad got to see his son again in death.

Ahhh roger that!
But wasn't this one of multiple endings? I do not know why, but i remember a fight with an AI, which wanted to change the planet and control human evolution, which it succeeded to a point, with the humans who currently inhabit the world, but it is still a work in progress? am i remembering this wrong?.
