A few years ago, I played Final Fantasy XIII for the first time and really enjoyed it.
As the game ended, I was surprised to hear a pop song playing. In my later research, I had found that it was the song "My Hands" by Leona Lewis and was licensed for use in the game.
I have since become a bit of a fan and had even bought the album the song was initially featured on from a thrift store:

Are there any bands/musicians/artists that you didn't really get into until you heard their music in a game?
I was thinking specifically those who don't normally work in video game music, but feel free to include video game musicians too if you like!

Open your heart by Crush 40 introduced me to the rock genre when i was 6 years old.
Sonic Adventure (Video Game)

But it was Ozzie, Slash and Flea that introduced me to heavy metal and one of the best singers/musicians that ever lived.

Tony Hawk introduced me to Primus
I forget how I learned about Primus exactly, but I always used to have them playing when I would play Borderlands on the 360 back in the day

Love me some Crush 40!
Pretty sure Guitar Hero introduced me to Ozzy & Slash

The FIFA 3D games
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1
The Guitar Hero series
NFS Underground 1 & 2, Most Wanted 2005

Almost any 2000s game with licensed music had some music that i liked but the one i vividly remember is GTA Vice City Stories with the V-Rock station.
Introduced me to RATT, Dokken, Queensryche, Dio, Autograph, Scorpions, Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe...
And you can expand that to almost every GTA game ^^
ahhhh the good old days of gaming...
where did it go :'''(

Brutal Legends - a lot of artist such as Ozzy Osbourne
Yakuza series - a lot of Japanese artists such as Eikichi Yazawa and Tatsuro Yamashita
Tony Hawk games

Twisted Metal III - Pitchshifter
Gekido: Urban Fighters - Apartment 26
S.L.A.I.: Steel Lancer Arena International - Zebrahead
Twisted Metal: Head-On - Level

And various artists from Road Rash (1994), Quarantine, Frequency, Amplitude, Vs. (Polygon Magic/THQ), Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012, Heavy Metal: Geomatrix, N2O: Nitrous Oxide, Jet Grind Radio, Street Sk8er 1 & 2.

The Japanese vers. of the Tales of Abyss OP got me to check out Bump of Chicken. They're a pretty popular AniSong Band but I bought the album Orbital Period (which has Karma as a track) while in Tokyo and it's become one of my all-time favorite albums.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance- Adema
Jet Set Radio Future- Bis
Brutal Legend- Motorhead
Duke Nukem Land of the Babes- Static-X

Rock Band/Guitar Hero and teen angst and a cool older brother are what sent me down the path of insufferable music nerd. When You Were Young in GH3 turned me on to the Killers and I remember picking up the album Sam's Town at FYE. Still one of my personal favorite albums all these years later.

I think playing so many JRPGs as a kid a led to my fondness for ambient and new age music. Also the composer of Panzer Dragoon made a really great album in the 80s.
