Link was like, doin cool spell and sword stuff in that game. He could level up and fly and whatnot, how come they don't make another one like that? Every other style of zelda gets 10 billion games. They did Breath of the Wild twice in a row!

It was controversial at the time (many disliked the change in style) and it's been a million years, so it's highly unlikely. I'd like it though, Zelda 2 is good and there aren't enough side-scroller RPGs.

Does it really bother you that they never made another game like Zelda II or are you just complaining just for the sake of conversation?

AoL was my first Zelda. So I actually found the original game to be more awkward at first. I would love an AoL remake. But it's not likely to happen.

Doesn't really bother me, just interesting to me I guess. the top down and and 3d evolved but not that one it seems

True, I guess in a way Arzette (I think thats the name of that indie game) is the successor to the sidescroller zelda in that case

I don't think I've ever seen this one

There is a DS game entitled "Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage". It is essentially a direct copy of Zelda 2's gameplay loop, with an Adventure time coat of paint. Not groundbreaking or anything, but a good time if you really dig that kind of game.

Zelda 2: Adventure of Link is one of the first games I remember playing. It doesn't get enough recognition or love. I have Ganon's evil laugh seared into my brain. I would love to get a new Zelda in the sidescrolling style. Link's Awakening had a few callbacks with the side scrolling sections, but other than that, nothing.

Some of the cool elements of Zelda 2 that I haven't since in Zelda games since:

  • Levels and XP for Link: You can customize your Link as you progress through the game, increasing attack, defense or magic efficiency.
  • Sword combat and shield positioning: The vertical position of the shield matters. Some enemies attack high while some attack low.
  • Really tough enemy AI: The Darknut's AI is almost diabolical. They can parry your attacks intelligently without it feeling like they are cheating. Dark Link is probably the hardest boss in Zelda's history.
