I remember catching a glimpse of Apocalypse (the second movie) during a particularly dead party sometime in the early aughts and getting utterly blown away by how... Fun it looked.
It didn't know a damn thing about the Resident Evil games at that point, but the movies made me want to dig deeper and trying them out for myself (which was a HUGE WIN for themselves, since advertising the games was kind of the whole point). I ended up playing --and loving-- Nemesis shortly thereafter exclusively because I had grown really excited by the idea of fighting this one monster across Raccoon City.
Then, many years later, FX did a marathon of all the movies that had existed up to that point and I watched them all with my brother, only really disliking the first and last ones (I found the first one to be limited by choice because they kept it almost universally enclosed on a tiny area and the last one just didn't give a fuck about anything and it showed).
I think these movies are much better than they have any right to be, and are easily elite among the (admittedly rather shallow) pool of videogame-based flicks.
What do you think?
