I know they're often extremely controversial, but I love goofy and loose RPG localizations. Seeing older ones with dated references or modern ones with goofy slang terms added in is always entertaining to me and I think it adds a lot of character to games that can often be very dry. They're unfortunate for those that want a more "pure" experience with the game; however, I think that if one wants the most accurate version, you'd just have to learn Japanese. I know that's unfair to expect someone to do, but I've never really minded wild liberties taken with localizing.
I wanna know some of your favorite examples of an NPC in a localization, English or otherwise, saying something totally unexpected, wild, or funny. Or, just a vastly improved line over the original.
One of my favorites is a kid in Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete on the PS1 saying that he wants to grow up to be big and strong so he always eats his Wheaties, which is a very dated reference to an cereal ad from the time. Also from the same game, a character remarks how they hate chickens and wanna choke them, which made me roll my eyes in a good way. The entire game so far just has the silliest translation and I adore it, despite it being nothing like the original dialogue.
