What’s the most novel Boss you’ve fought?

Lest we forget
The war of Elden Ring bosses has begun. Not the strongest, but way harder than Rennala.

Norman's boss battle in Alien Hominid co-starring Tom Fulp's cat, Charlie
There is no frantic battle of gunfire and explosions, just memorizing patterns

The final bosses in Pizza Tower

The first two phases are basic (Aside of Pizzaface's true form as pizzahead) but after beating Pizzahead, you are lead to a fakeout victory, just for him to heal himself, summon the previous bosses and taunt you over it, Peppino at this point is absolutely D O N E with Pizzahead's antics, so he gives the game's most impressive scream and beats the shit out of the bosses, the rest of the battle is less you fighting the bosses and more they fighting you, ,not even Pizzahead is safe, since he literally doesn't take the battle seriously, all you need to do is wait until he opens himself and finish him once and for all

Suffice to say, an epic twist on a Boss Rush since King Dice

this is going to be long but here we go. i am gonna use some non popular examples:
i love when games used to have limited story tellings so they used every aspect to tell their lore. in tekken 1 (yes that tekken 1) heihachi is the final boss, but every character has a sub boss that's a specific counterpart to the character you chose to play (king fights armor king, nina fights anna) and in your brain you think that you're playing as the good guy until you reach the ending and see that may not be the case
This goes all the way until you play as heihachi and the final boss is devil kazuya which makes you wonder if you were ever playing as the good guy in the first place

phantasy star always was heavy on the story aspect, so when pso was heavily focused on the gameplay and the online aspect they had to become creative
the longer you play episode 1 the more you realize how messed up the world you're exploring is, and the bosses are used to only confirm your thoughts that "oh this enemy did take over this"
for the sake of spoilers ill be lowkey but with vol opt i find it cool that you literally have to break every computer screen in order to make him come out and fight him for real in phase 2. and the ost names being "the crazy program" and for phase 2 "you have nowhere to go" can be both said on the boss itself but also the earlier protagonist who had to witness those events by herself alone

fighters impact is a 3d fg that did something similar to tekken 1 with the boss thing. so full spoilers barazock the final boss is extremely disrespectful to martial arts because as a kid his parents were murdered and the murderer took his eyesight. this led him traveling the world and directly targeting martial artists and kidnapping them. His disrespect comes in the form of an ai boss only move that's called x copy, where he can copy whatever attack you hit him with and preform it on you. The novelty of him as a boss to me is the person who messed him up is playable in game as an old man called bernhard who seem like a kind old man until you play as barazock himself and the final boss for barazok is bernhard but in a special boss only costume that not only looks evil with him having a full mask and black clothing, but he has an eye gouging throw now
The story in this game is extremely limited as the game doesn't even have cg endings but i do love the small little things they added in the bosses when they could've totally left it out as just background info for the characters

anyway i guess this extended past bosses but i really love it when games use bosses and gameplay in general to tell a narrative

Just a fun little homage to Punch Out

The boss fight at 11:25. It's moments like this that make me love this series. Nothing is more fun than seeing Team Sly working together.

There isn't anything about this boss in particular, I just think the tate system in general is brilliant and you can see it in action here

This was pretty novel at the time

Making a Eugenist commit self unalive anyone?

My ass was a novel boss fight.

But really ahhh psycho mantis but honestly all boss fights from MGS are great i would say the game at its best is it's boss fights.

The fiends of elements from Final Fantasy 4 and how each one had a weakness for example water needed to be shocked to prevent it from casting tsunami.

Dare i say kefka from FF6? Throughout the game he gets progressively stronger and the way you ascend to a glimmering golden sky with the game SNES intro music playing revealing kefka and the music going full crazy mode yeah kefka was one of them.
