What's the best way to play MSX games?

Like, is a CRT ideal or 4:3 LCD or modern monitor with a CRT filter? On original hardware or MisterFPGA with a keyboard? With a controller?

I've been playing MSX games on PC but IDK, it feels lacking. PC-88 games really benefit from being shown on a CRT because of the dithered colour blending they often employ, for instance.

I mean you said it yourself, if they benefit from being shown on a CRT then its the best choice. But before bying a bulky monitor/TV I'd try some good CRT filters that actually look close enough to a real deal, not just slap scanlines on top of your game.

Personal preference, but I'd rather run it in an emulator without any filters because I've never come across any that I liked. Originally made for crts, replicating real experience, whatever... if we're going through all of that, the "real" experience would be being born in Japan in the late 70s so you were old enough to actually and enjoy use one in its day.

I dislike CRT filter BS so better find a CRT monitor to play then, but you can use emulator for it. As for controller, honestly just for CRT TV feel and emulation I play MSX games on PS2 via gamepad which is ok but keyboard makes easier because when you wanna play on gamepad you may want to change keybindings for every game specifically.

Emulator with CRT filters. Personally, I think Blargh's filters are the best out there, but not sure if you can use them for MSX games.

Real CRTs are abit pricey now, and heavy as fuck. I don't see anything in the MSX library that would justify for going through all the trouble to play MSX on that, unless you plan on playing other systems on it too.

CRT is dead too big for simple msx gfx, just play on small display phone, pocket retro, pocket pc, tablet with Bilinear filtering is the real plug n play away.
