Just curious what game is your favourite FromSoftware game and also do you sometimes return to those games?

Games made by FromSoftware (just some examples):

  • Kuon
  • Otogi 1 and 2
  • Demon's Souls
  • Dark Souls 1-3
  • Ninja Blade
  • Evergrace
  • Eternal Ring
  • Lost Kingdom I and II
  • King's Field
  • Echo Night
  • Armored Core
  • Bloodborne
  • etc...

My top 5:

1. Dark Souls 3
2. Dark Souls 2
3. Elden Ring
4. Bloodbourne
5. Armoured Core VI

Well here's mine

Evergrace
Echo Night 1
Armored Core 1 2 and 3
Armored Core (Master Arena Another Age and Last Raven)
Lost Kingdom 1 and 2
Forever Kingdom (Prequel to Evergrace)

Probably a pretty cliché list, but that's just how good these games are:

1. Sekiro (perfect)
2. Bloodborne (perfect, but I've played it to death)
3. Elden Ring (specifically when paired with Shadow of the Erdtree)
4. Dark Souls 1 (still has the best looping level design of the genre)
5. Dark Souls 3 (if this one wasn't so drab looking I would like it even more)

I also like plenty of their older games a lot as well, like Shadow Tower Abyss, King's Field IV, Echo Night 2 and Armored Core: Last Raven in particular, but I'm not gonna be a contrarian on this - those 5 are just *chef's kiss* through and through.
Best dev studio going this past decade or so. In my mind at least.

Oh and yeah I've gone back through all of these at least a couple times.

Bloodborn I have played but it´s not even top 10 for me the game was so easy I just don´t like it.

Does are the games I played so I can´t say much about the others.

None. As I grow older, my patience for video games are gone. And their games need alot of patience to get good at, or atleast get past the first stage...
I often felt so but then I realized it wasn't beause I realized old games are not hard but their BS gameplay just a huge bother or new games are not hard but just time wasters (they think enemy being bullet sponge is hard now lol). What I realized is I never actually played really "hard games" until like a decade ago.

I think a game is only hard when the difficulty is because of your lack of knowledge to play the game better especially in the context of either you have no idea of the features or you have no idea how to use the features in the best way possible for yourself. I don't think having to learn enemy patterns and developing Jedi reflexes as "hard". I also don't think any game that becomes "easy" just because you have to develop your character and getting better equipment makes the game hard. Even if with an upgrade system a hard game should be hard no matter what just because player need to use their knowledge in the best way to play the game so it's not even about "skill".

In that context for example why I enjoy playing S rank gameplay of Metal Gear Rising and why I always play Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet without any companion but with hardest difficulty is just because these games make you change your gameplay style into "more fun way" so thus you enjoy all the features available to you in must fun way possible so thus you can actually enjoy a hard game. A game is not hard if the game has unbalanced level scalling forcing players to grind EXP very early on in the game. The game is not hard if players cannot defeat an enemy without a particular level, skill or gear. The game is only hard because player lacks the necessary knowledge to know how to defeat the enemy so even pattern recognition, best level and gear becomes useless to defeat the enemy. I think as a game require skill to progress the more it gets luck-based gameplay. Nothing involving luck makes it "hard".

Now when I find a new hard game I'm like "ah I missed this feeling. It takes me back to the war I was honoured to fight in like 60 years ago!!! This battlefield makes me feel young again and I would be honoured more if I had died in this battle!!!!" lolol.
