What's in your Heartspace?

In my latest book I introduce the concept of "heartspaces" which, without spoiling too much, are places/rooms of comfort deep within a person's soul, decorated with things that make up who you are. Photos, hobbies, memoribilia, knick knacks, stuff you may have recieved from people you hold dear, or stuff that just reminds you of them.

So I'm curious, if you could decorate your own Heartspace, what would be in it?

My office in my home doubles as a comfort space. It has Miku merch displayed together with some other keepsakes from my life, like my remaining kendo gear. I like having comforting stuff in sight when either working or browsing the internet.

So pictures of special moments? Since that's kinda the only way you can display the past. I mean I get that most of what makes most of us is the moments we've shared with others, and those moments live on as memories, but memories are abstract, untangible, and while I am all for going with memories over material stuff, the idea of this place is moreso physical objects that hold a special meaning.

I'll take this room as a base

I'd put discoball on the top of it and take out that furniture centered around the crystal ball. There would be a few cute videogame and magical girl characters decorating the walls.

This place would be decorated with this flags:

There would be videogames and an arcade machine, but on the outside.

I mean I get that most of what makes most of us is the moments we've shared with others, and those moments live on as memories, but memories are abstract, untangible, and while I am all for going with memories over material stuff, the idea of this place is moreso physical objects that hold a special meaning.

There are still some various nicknacks that would represent those memories and times spent together. some good, some bittersweet, some funny, some bad but necessary, some triumphant.

Well basic things. Memories of my mother and my cats. Rainy days where I used to sit near the window while playing Phantasy Star 3, Shining Force, Beyond Oasis, Rock'n'Roll Racing, Road Rash etc. First I bought with my first salary, favorite books, comics, manga.

You're right, I didn't ;-) Because while I initially imagined heartspaces as these uniform square rooms that are equal in size for everyone, as I kept writing I realized that the size and shape of the room also played into the characters' personalities, so while "most" people just have a regular livingroom-style room in my story, there are also cases where some people's heartspace is more "out there" ;-)

I would normally also say that my livingroom in my apartment IS my heartspace, but while I AM surrounded by videogames and manga and anime, truth is my room is bloated to the point I feel I suffocate, the furniture ain't where I want it to be, and the rest of my space is just a mess because I have no basement to store all the exces away.

In other words, while there is stuff around me that I would place in my heartspace, my real life nerd/livingroom is by NO means what I would call a true representation of who I am as a person.

I beat VexX on PS2 which has some of the meanest, narrowest, and bs platforming I have ever seen, so what I see here is small potatoes ;-)

-My computer with a CRT for emulation, dual monitors for streaming, and a large flat panel TV for casual games.
-Soundproof walls so I can sing in private and be alone with my thoughts if I get overwhelmed.
-A balcony with a small speaker, chair, and small table.
The problem is I don't think I would really find comfort in it if I had it. It's hard to explain, but I kind of have a hard time imagining a true heart space that doesn't make me feel melancholic.
