What’s a gaming universe you’d hate to live in?

Fallout. But not because of the radiation or raiders/monsters. I just hate giant cockroaches.

Any JRPG where you're not part of the main cast would suck. Most of the time the villains end up destroying a lot of the villages/towns and the poor people that live in it are gone.

Sometimes, depending on how lighthearted the game is, they survive with the excuse that somehow the whole city managed to evacuate or something. Then there's games like Wild Arms or Xenogears where everyone is brutally murdered and that's it.

Silent Hill has always been a town I've wanted to visit. With friends and an armor of course but it's fascinating in many ways!

As someone who has been to Centralia, no, you don't.

You know what's gonna kill you there?

Boredom.

(Yes, I know about the Reddit thread. And I'm ignoring it for effect.)

Katamari Damacy. Wouldn't be nice to have the prince of all cosmos steal my socks, pencils, keyboard and eventually my entire house...

The world of Dead Space

I feel like living in a RPG would be great. Just get a sword and kill a couple monsters and you've made your money for the day. Even if you're injured, one night's sleep and you're fine. The problem is you have to start at the town where the local monsters are weak, otherwise any little monster will kill you.

The metal slug universe.
I mean, the world is in a constant war where the rebel side is willing to do anything, they have destroyed villages and small towns according to guidebooks and art books, they have placed explosives in toys to give them away, not to mention taking hostages and placing them in horrible places like bonfires or hanging in the middle of the jungle.
There is an island full of the most hostile fauna, crabs, mosquitoes, worms, eels, jellyfish all of them colossal.
The world has been invaded by aliens TWICE.
There is an Egyptian curse that has been unleashed (it started in the second game and you can see how far it has progressed in the fourth)
The worst of all is the zombie virus. It started with an asteroid that shot down a plane and killed and turned most of the crew into zombies, leaving the rest disabled. The rebel army brought its scientists and soldiers to protect and investigate the meteorite, but they ended up converted due to exposure. In the fourth game we can see how this virus reached a city turning all the inhabitants into zombies, to discover that it was the rebel army who brought this virus possibly to experiment on them.

Homeworld seeing your own race get annihilated and planet that you live in get glassed to smithereens stuck to a mothership being hunted down by a massive empire all for a history that you don't even remember because it happened ages ago with only a map that your ancestors left to find your real origins and homeworld

An obvious contender must be Grand Theft Auto, being at the mercy of a criminal that when not killing over a mission can warp reality to give himself heavy weaponry and unleash hell on earth just because he is bored, even if you take the wackyness of the Gameplay, you are still in a realistic view on criminal world

Definitely BlazBlue, so much crazy shit happens in the story that it'll be more then living in hell.

Black and White. The gods are explicitly real, petty, incompetent, capricious, and partisan. They represent their will on Earth through giant monsters, which they use to fight proxy duels with each other and destroy each other's people. Even if you're lucky enough to be living under a good deity, it's just a matter of time until one of the many evil ones targets your country.

Fire emblem, cause not only you would live in a mediaeval setting - with luck determining whether you're going to be noble or a commoner and also all its problems with hygiene, you're also thrown in a war between the nations across the globe. So, even if you're a noble in this world, you would still get involved in the wars, so there's nowhere to run.

Harvest Moon -- it's either working by doing backbreaking, physical labor from dawn til dusk or dying hungry, scared and alone.

It's a little too real a scenario for me.
You perfectly describe the life of a middle-class person in a third-world country, I feel personally attacked xD.

In any universe where you are not the main protagonist or the shopkeeper in a JRPG, otherwise you would die brutally and there would be no hope of surviving in that world.

I feel also F-Zero world would be atrociously dangerous to live in there. Especially with all the criminals and bounty hunters duking out everywhere. And not to mention those cars. We would be already lucky to survive a regular one in the real world, in this one you pretty much 100% risk your life every single time.

Subnautica. I'd have to live and constantly travel underwater (I love swimming but not open sea or especially being underwater), be in perpetual social isolation and subsist on fish / seafood.
