I feel that this sort of thing has increased exponentially in the last decade or so, right after the demise of MCNs (Multi-Channel Networks) and the sudden possibility of making money off gaming content on the platform... People can now make a living out of playing videogames and, in turn, make them very interesting to watch to keep the dough rolling.

The first game I personally bought because of watching someone else play it was Life Is Strange -- the person going through it did such a good job making it look awesome that I just followed suit and got the whole thing.

I didn't finish it, but that was because of me personally not connecting with the story after the halfway point.

What about you?

Because FrankieOnPCin1080p played Dayz I created a blog to post a guide to play on private servers.
In that same blog I later uploaded a file for a game called Black Rock Shooter.
So if this site exists is because of Frankie. I didn't plan any of it.

I owe alot to this Youtuber, this exact, now 15 yr old playthrough of Silent Hill 2 got me into the franchise, SH2 now my favourite game ever, period. Everything about the symbolism, theories, i obsessed over.
My comment left on one of the parts is still there, somewhere... buried 15 years later. crazy!

I don't think i could ever find the video again but a while back, I had watched a random playthrough of True Crime: Streets of LA and thought the game looked interesting enough to make me want to play it. Found a copy on Ebay a couple days later and picked it up for myself.

Devil May Cry. I watched the youtuber Dross talking about the trilogy and I got interested later that day I discovered the HD collection for Xbox 360 and the rest is history.

TwoBestFriends convinced me to check out a lot of games, same for Retsupurae when they started doing wrongpuraes.

House Flipper is the last one I can think of, but I watched them play it on giant bomb, not YT. A lot of times the trailer and word of mouth is enough for me, and I don't click with a lot of YT personalities.

Deadly Premonition. I forget who it was off the top of my head, but I remember watching someone talk about it and then I fell in love with it not too long after I played it.

Cyberpunk 2077.

I believe it was The Spiffing Brit who got an early copy of it. And well, with all the glorious glitches and fuckups the game had, I absolutely pre-ordered it solely because it was a total mess.

I Regret nothing!

in the period of 2012-2015 i used to watch this guy called forklauncher do let's plays on different games. he got me HOOKED on dark souls and pokemon, then disappeared without a trace and hasn't uploaded in 10 years... odd.

the Tower of guns because of this :
the first minute of the video is hilarious and became a meme with my friends
had online multi and was crazy tough.

I watched Pewdiepie play Tropico and Minecraft and it was funny so I bought them.

i see a lot of games because of Noisy pixel on youtube and it's almost always something i enjoy (JRPGs mostly)
