Fear Effect games on PS1 also. Cel shading is cool.

Ohhhh!!! Great idea! That said, I still think the Dead or Alibe games are XBox’s peak graphically, alongside Panzer Dragoon Orta.

And Mega Drive? I know it sounds insane, but seriously take the time to check out “The Adventures of Batman and Robin”. Basically Contra but on disgustingly hard difficulty and with all the graphical things the Genesis supposedly couldn’t do… out front and center like it’s some kind of trophy.

And for Saturn, it’s a total toss up between Virtua Fighter 2, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Princess Crown, and my sprite scaling bias squeals when playing Layer Section.

No such thing as it's all subjective., in OP's list I *might* agree with Vagrant Story and that's it.

I love PDS but the texture work automatically makes it not

Atari 2600 is still having its limits tested, but Solaris is a perfect balance of everything that console could do. The 5200 is Star Raiders, no contest (first person hyperspace on a computer and console in 1983 WHAT).

Everything else from them, I’d need help with, but I’m thinking that Missile Command 3D might actually be the graphical peak for the Jaguar (though I personally prefer the style of Tempest 2000).

My big thing with PDS is that there aren’t many huge RPGs on the system that are 3D. As such, it kinda wins by default for even trying on a console that was kneecapped in 3D.

That's like saying a basketball player lost in a marathon but he should win by default for trying to do a thing he wasn't made to do, but ok I guess

PDS is awesome. It even stands out among the other RPGs on the Saturn. Sega should bring it back.

Seconded. Came here to say this, and you [just barely] beat me to it 🥳

There's some fantastic 2600 Homebrew, but if we're just going with stock retail releases, yes, Solaris is simply a cut above most 2600 titles. Honorable Mention goes to Pitfall II, though that may just be my own personal bias talking 😇

For the 2600, yeah, I do believe Star Raiders is considered its Killer App. I'm partial to the Lucasfilm Games titles, such as Rescue on Fractalus. Looks pretty choppy by today's standards, but considering it's randomly generating a planetary landscape on the fly, it's an impressive use of the old tech!

Going forward, I'm pretty partial to the later Namco titles on the PS1. Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer Type 4 have both aged extremely well, especially from a visual standpoint. And no knock on Vagrant Story, but I think there's several PS1 titles from 2000 and onward that push the limits of the system. Someone already mentioned Fear Effect, and Retro Helix certainly still impresses. As does Parasite Eve II. Knock a few points off for pre-rendered backgrounds if you must 😅

PDS is awesome, but once you're on foot, it's just hard to look at. I've always wondered why it didn't just get delayed and moved to Dreamcast. We've seen the Shenmue demos on Saturn, PDS could've had a similar treatment. If only.

how is that any different from PS-One RPGs like Final Fantasy VIII or Legend of Dragoon?

- Shit, Atari 2600 one simultaneously easy and hard one to answer but I would say this game:

It's kinda "wow" like its first game is like kinda out of NES era lol.

- NES: https://youtu.be/h2CkTJ-7kYk?t=51

I always thought Contra Force pushed to the limit but not just because sometimes game run in slow motion lol, the graphics are really detailed dude for a NES game and it really looks good.

- Sega Genesis:

Well there are really visually appealing games like Beyond Oasis, Spirou and Streets of Rage series but this one looks cooler.

- SNES:

I always liked CAPCOM's later on visual-art style regarding how they use colors, so this is when it starts baby lol. Later on we see the peak in Breath of Fire 4 but after 3D became a thing CAPCOM art replaced with non-art 3D BS.

- PS1:

It was a hard pick for I like graphics of many PS1 game, but the way colors and lights are used different in a good way for me. Even models and textures actually look cool.

- PS2:

I would dare to say this is best graphics in the video game history and I can't be convinced otherwise!! lolol

- GBA: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

It looks like shit on a monitor but I swear it looks good on GBA SP's screen!!1 lol:

Well afterwards we all know graphics gone for BS sense of realism and visual arts are completely butchered for lazy graphics, so can't say after PS2 and GBA era there was "graphics" to speak of, it just turned into meaningless technical debate. FIN!!! lol

For Atari 2600, i'd say Solaris. For a machine designed for stuff like pong, that was insane, especially with the dev tools of the time

Probably not the graphical peak of the Spectrum/Amstrad/Commodore era but I thought it was because I used to see the cartoon and in my young mind it wasn't too far off.

For Genesis, id say these are most graphically impressive personally

Sonic 2&3 for the special stages mostly which are impressive for a console lacking Mode 7

Thunder Force IV with how speedy it manages to look despite being quite slow

Streets of Rage 2 because just look at it

Rocket Knight Adventures for the bosses, especially that mech boss

Contra Hard Corp, Adventures of Batman & Robin, Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes, and Alien Soldier also for their bosses, some of which look pseudo 3D.

Spinderella, Mad Hatter, Seven Force, that one boss in Contra that’s chasing you, and that Alien Soldier boss that’s a cowboy riding a giant metal horse are especially insane for this console.

You’re right. I’ll revise my statement to Panzer Dragoon Zwei, because it’s the best use the Saturn has in showing off its “infinite planes” hardware feature. Not very useful in practice for most developers at the time. However, it helped give some great moments in Zwei, alongside that game having really good models for the Saturn in general.

GBA has a lot of really graphically impressive games!
Iridion 3D
Iridion II
Gunstar Super Heroes
Advance Guardian Heroes
Astro Boy: Omega Factor
Golden Sun
Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Asterisk and Obelix XXL
