I think the first game I ever bought with my hard-earned cash was Combat Flight Simulator 2.

I really wanted to play that one, particularly after having such a blast with the first one (and also because the sequel was way too big for me to pirate on an internet cafe), so I started saving money like crazy, keeping the change whenever I had my lunch, avoiding candy, and just working towards that goal. It was AMAZING when I finally reached it.

At one point I had an entire CD worth of add-ons for that game, because I was THAT nuts about it. I still am.

What about you?

I don't quite remember the store, but I was searching for RTS and those Tower Defense game because apparently I like it so much as a kid (before discovering much more than that). I can't find any in the store, so I leave.

It was 2010-2014 or something when mobile phones started to make a rise in gaming. It was amazing looking back because the games are much more polished than I thought (maybe even better than most of the games right now). I decided to borrow someone's phone and check this "Play Store" because I've heard great things about it...and I'm glad I did

There I finally found what I wanted and what I chose is Kingdom Rush. The first one won't count since it's free but later they would created another one called Kingdom Rush: Frontier. I didn't buy it immediately of course because I can wait and I haven't even finish the first one yet. But when it's on sale for a cheap price, that's when I finally brought it and it was sensational

i think it was Crash Bandicoot 3 on PS1
it would take me about 6 weeks to make enough pocket money for a platinum PS1 game XD

For me it was the Orange Box on the 360. I wasn't even really a fan of the half life games or anything, it was entirely that I just got my first paycheque and so 14 year old me went down to EB Games and bought the first new thing on the shelves. I played Portal for awhile on it, then CoD4 came out maybe a month later and I entirely forgot about the Orange Box.

This is surprisingly tricky to answer. Older consoles here always had an extended grace period. Ps2 was such one example, as it maintained extreme popularity even 4 years into the ps3’s lifespan, and with ps2 games being seen as older and more readily available, all the games were locally priced at exactly 1 Kuwaiti dinar (3 US dollars). Wasn’t even bargain bin, all the big hitters, even new games were priced similarly. It was obviously all just grey market as I did eventually run into a copy of FIFA 14 for the ps2 that was priced differently. I knew it was different cuz it had a casing at all. 😛

So my allowance was more than enough to buy games, in rare cases I got larger allowances and saved up money but I can’t remember what I did. So in other words, I’ve been buying games with my own for as long as I can remember. Even the moment I got my own income, I wasn’t exactly in a rush to buy new games, often I’d just wait for holiday sales. I had a USA account on my PlayStation so it was easy to take advantage of Black Friday and Christmas sales.

Technically not with my own money (parent), but in exchange for learning to tie my shoe laces at 5 years old, got Street Fighter II for Amiga 500 (which came on 4 floppy disks) and learnt my first ever fighting game on a keyboard in '93...Perhaps I should try leverless controllers and go back to my roots!

And then I made the mistake of selling it at Game Crazy for $15 a few years later teaching me the valuable lesson of never ever selling my games unless I truly don't want them anymore.

My local drugstore had a bargain bin of DS games going for $5 to $10 a pop, so whenever I had a few coins jangling around in my pocket I'd buy some shovelware and play it with my friends.

I think the first game I ever bought was Clubhouse Games, a simple collection of basic parlour games that's actually extremely good (it even had online multiplayer!), but I also remember plenty of stinkers like Marker Man Adventures and the DS version of World of Zoo. Buying budget games for the DS was always a nerve-wracking experience, because 9 times of 10 they sucked. 😬

I remember seeing an original Gameboy with a few games at a goodwill when I was young that I bought with money I made cutting some yards. I can't remember for certain of this was the first time, but it is the earliest memory I have of buying my own stuff. Got Pokemon Red, Tetris, Contra, and a couple other games I can't recall

Dude! Nice! I tried to do the same at one point but couldn't gather the cash fast enough.

In my case the first game that I bought with my hard earned cash was Borderlands 2 on the xbox 360. I bought it in the now extinct Zmart store in chile. Later that day I learned the experience of looting weapons

I remember with my first paycheck from my first job, I bought Metallica's St. Anger cd (lol), but for some reason I genuinely can not remember any games. I think around that time I had a Dreamcast and a cd burner

I do remember when the idea popped in to my head that I could just like... spend my money on whatever I want , though. I just went to the store in the mall I worked at, and bought a ps3 and whatever wrestling game came out that year. What bills? 😅

The first game I bought with my own money was Full Throttle for PC. I was not alone but unique among my friends because my mom played video games from the VIC-20 up to PS1 so I rarely had to buy any.

I love how bulky Dreamcast and PS1 game cases are.
Anyway I saw this game when we were on vacation, I think it was probably in Turkey but could have been France, it was on some sort of flea market I think. I must have been around 10 years old or something? So its really hard to remember the specifics if im not outright just guessing at this point.
All I really know is: I bought it because it looked cool and was cheap and my brother had just gotten a PS1.

That's a good question I think it was Neo The World Ends With You. Great game btw. Either that or the Kingdom Hearts All in One Collections

Link to the Past, with pre-owned written across the cartridge. Found someone who didn't want their box/manual/map of Hyrule, so I could pretend I had the whole thing.

my first game i bought with my own money was The legends of Zelda twiligth princess!

One of the first ones I remember buying with my own money was GTA V last year on Steam. My first game bought on that platform, and the third time I played this game on a console other than the magical Xbox 360 I had (I still have, but of a different model) when I was a child.

Playing it again was wonderful. 15 euros with special contents. Except I've never played the multiplayer mode, too many people busting my balls and very long loading times for online missions or deathmatches.
Some days after that purchase... I bought Civilization III for 5 euros. Another goated game.
