We all have fond memories of our favorite video games from our childhoods. Whether it was on the weekends or after school or on vacation they kept us entertained for hours on end with fun gameplay and enthralling worlds to explore. but we all have those games that really wowed us, the ones that we remember the most vividly and fondly, the games that really defined our childhoods and felt like actual magic. But you only get to experience every game for the first time once and every first impression leaves it's mark.

So, which retro game from your childhood do you wish you could experience for the first time again and reawaken that almost magical feeling of awe and wonder?

I would love to relive the first time I played Pokémon Blue. That was one of my favorite gaming memories from when I was a kid. Getting to step into the Pokémon world yourself for the very first time was a defining point in just about every 90's kid's life.

Age of Empires 3. It was my first RTS and the one I played the most. The soundtrack, the big amount of unique factions, units and the fact that they actually visually change as you upgrade then. The buildings actually crumbling as you destroy then. Everything about it looked so impressive to me back then.

Final Fantasy VIII: I consider it my first real videogame, despite having played "Tomb Raider 2" before (it was my first pc ever, and the only game I ever heard of was TR, that's why it's been my first choice... in the meanwhile I saw both a screesaver from ff8 and the boxed version of it in a store, and I decided I HAD to play that game, sooner or later).
I did not own a console until much later, so my first gaming experience was on pc, and I never got back to retrogaming (apart a couple of gba titles when I had the ds)

mgs2 on ps2, i was very young, pre-teens levels even, and because that is filled lot with plot twists, conspiracy theories, ai refs, simulations, political stuff and all, i couldn't get it, and liked it only for the action and the amazing directed cutscenes

but yeah, as i grew older, with better exp and all, then i understood the meaning behind peak kojima era symbolism and theories, which still expand till now, and unironically, some of them, are really ''close'' to reality, you get what i am trying to say

among few other game directors/creators like kojima, just know the game, despite all the weirdness and ''big brain'' elements, they put, into their series, others like kojima be like, suda51, shinji mikami, swery65, kenji eno, etc

Childhood? That’s Sonic 1. No lie.

That said, ignoring the time requirement, I WISH I could play Night in the Woods for the first time again. That game messed me up so hard, and felt so vast back when I didn’t know how much of an actual game there was. It hit at the perfect time for me too: when I had just turned 20 and was very much struggling living on my own for the first time.

It wasn’t that long ago that I first played it, but it FEELS like a lifetime ago.

Earthbound because it was my favorite game as a child and i'd like to know how I feel about it going in with fresh eyes and without immense nostalgia.

I'll give you one that I played as an ADULT:

Super Metroid

Yes. I played it for the first time around Halloween time in 2017 and it was an absolute blast from start to finish. I have replayed it a few times over the years since then and I love it so much, I absolutely consider it to be a perfect game (I don't use that term lightly) and I wish that I could experience it for the first time again. Maybe if I could tattoo a reminder on my arm to play it and then get hit by a truck and get amnesia, that would be awesome.

Final Fantasy X, MGS 1+2 and Resident Evil 1-3, Smackdown and Tony Hawk games.
I can’t forget the multiplayer games. N64 wrestling games, Mario party, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Madden, All Star Baseball, Goldeneye, Halo, Timesplitters.

This game single handedly changed my entire life, if it wasnt for it, i probably wouldn't even like gaming in general
Half Life 2, presented to me the magical world of video games and how complex it is. Now 13 years later since i first played, i have become an game dev and software in general interested and it made me like Physics lol
