what kind of console was SEGA

I wonder what kind of console SEGA was and why did he disappear ? Sometimes I think that SEGA is a relative of the Xbox.
 
They were a thing long before Xbox. Their first ever Foray into the Gaming Market with the SG-1000 Console only released in Japan debuted about 2 years before Windows 1.0 [1985]
 
The OG Xbox had a lot of Sega exclusives that kind of made it feel like a Dreamcast successor but it didn't last very long.
