6th Gen & Under is usually system like N64, PS2, Genesis and anything below. Yes I'm considered systems like the PSP, DS, Wii, 3DS as system under the power of 7th Gen and up. Despite coming out after the time of PS2/GC.

What is your thoughts on emulation from 7th Gen & Up - X360/PS3 & Up?

It’s developing. It’s really impressive how far along things have come already, and it’s sure to get better.

I think some older folks may wonder what the point is, and to that I say “because developers love a challenge”. As well, some games are console locked and don’t run the best on said consoles, so dedicated fans will literally tear apart and put back together a console’s entire architecture if it means playing a game they love at 60FPS and 4K resolutions.

I’m all for seeing new developments in the scene! Even proof of concepts can be just cool to see! The original systems aren’t going anywhere (aside from launch 360’s and PS3’s trying to kill themselves), so I see no issue with working to provide people with options, especially as the folks who grew up on these systems are now the main people talking about games online.

I'm glad that now there is more progress. For years there was barely any info about such projects and now they are compatible with commercial games.

I never had a Xbox 360 but my cousins did and I've always been curious about Fable 2 and other works released on the system.
(Yes, I know you can play Fable 2 on Game Pass, but I don't have a subscription. My brother has one and I would rather have my own account).
I also wanted to play PS3, mostly due to Playstation Home, but there are some interesting games for it too.
And there are a handful Wii games that piqued my interest...
My computer is unable to run any of the emulators for these consoles, so it's like a distant dream for me.
Maybe one day :D

Wii, PSP, DS/3DS emulation is pretty well supported, but those machines were underpowered compared to the rest of the 7th generation so that makes sense.

PS3 emulation is still in its early stages. I haven't been able to get good performance on the games. It requires a really high end computer. The biggest problem is that the game files are waay too large. Its impractical to have a huge library of PS3 games.

Weirdly enough, Switch emulation was significantly ahead of previous gen consoles like PS3/XBOX 360, until Nintendo nuked it.

Not even Dolphin? It’s very scalable, and can satisfy your desire to play some Wii stuff if you’d like!

Switch emulation was so far ahead because of fan demand and dedication. Nintendo may be cruel and evil on a corporate front, but the artists and devs they have employed under them have made some of the most compelling software in the industry, and that fact is reflected in the number of people willing to put in time to make that software look and run better on stronger machines that are more accessible.

Yeah. 360 and PS3 are very much a case by case basis, same for Vita. 3DS has excellent emulation for the most part, and anything below is trivial.

Switch... is still out there, just takes more searching.

I've had no problem with the PS3 games I played with RPCS3 so far. Demon's Soul is fully playable in 4K 60FPS. Shadow of the Colossus and ICO from the HD reedition, upscaled and with better framerates as well, fully playable, even in stereo 3D with the VR headset. Armored Core 4 as well. And on a config that is now eight years old, core i7 6700K, Vega64 and 32 Go RAM. Played both on Linux and Win10.

As for 3DS, I was also quite impressed. Played Zelda Link Between World and Mario 3D Land in full, upscaled and with the VR headset as well.

I would say upscaling and community patches for improving frametimes makes it better than the real deal at this point.

Yeah, PS3, 360, heck, even OG Xbox emulation is still kind of in its infancy, even as good as they are now. There's a lot of horsepower with those systems in terms of what they can do. I think I read somewhere that to fully emulate a game console, you need hardware seven times more powerful than it. I don’t know about the 360 emulators, but I know PS3 emulators hog SSD space with shader storage. A few games, aside from their main files, can eat up gigs per game just in shaders.

As for performance, with the PS3 at least, a lot of games are playable, though few are perfect. That's probably five or so years down the road, and that's being generous about it.

That's a pretty accurate overview. I've had more success PS3 than 360 myself, despite the fact the PS3 hardware is, for all intents and purposes, a nightmare.

I'd like to think about two points:

Firstly, the industry can neither sustain nor support the preservation of games, and therefore emulation is what maintains the memory and history of this segment, so there will always be enthusiasts rescuing games for future generations.
And secondly, that the prices of games, or even the logic of triple A, is doomed to die... it's unsustainable to maintain the passion for games because the price isn't fair in countries like mine (Brazil).

it has been like an exciting progress over the years compared to how we were but is still a work in progress. Especially for PS and Xbox consoles. Nintendo on the other hands is fucking awesome how much progress has been made, even if Nintendo is actively putting their ninjas behind our backs.
However, i am more excited as the prospect of native PC ports for Xbox360. Played Sonic Unleashed pc port and i was blown away how good it runs and feels. Love to see something like that for other 360 exclusives or PS3 and Xbox360 game stuck in non port purgatory (like the Skate Series)

To be fair I still have to test Dolphin properly. I tried it a few times and had performance issues but that was on worse hardware. My hardware is still low end, but I would like to at least play some GameCube games if Wii doesn't work. I also heard that many games require the specific controllers and I don't have them.

I was impressed with the quality of 3DS emulation, it works well... I had slowdowns with a specific title (Ever Oasis), but other than that, it's rather good. I heard that it even supports texture mods.

I would also like to see more Xbox 360 and PS3 ports.

my gaming computer is a little older than that but not too different from yours core i5 6300HQ and 16GB of RAM. I'm probably right at that edge of having crap performance for PS3 games. Maybe they've optimized the PS3 emulator more for me to give it another try.

I just wish that X360 emulation makes as big of a leap as RPCS3 someday, so I can finally play Ninety-Nine Nights.

It's CPU heavy in my understanding, so you may want to tweak the number of cores used (Preferred SPU Threads) and increase the audio buffer if it stutters. But I had the overhead to record in 4K HEVC with the GPU.

I had an i5 on that config before but I burnt it on Vermintide 2, so I upgraded to a refurbished i7 I got for cheap.

Don't even talk about xbox 360.
there is a emulator called xenia which need a hight system require....
The xbox 360 use directx 9 and my directx 12 can handle it! Ui is worst part.
In fact ps3 isn't bad to emulate but I don't think xbox 360 would be emulate. Because of copyright and some other stuffs.
