There are a ton of fighting/brawler games out there to choose from, but if you had to choose a favorite which would it be?

For me it is The Warriors on PS2. It's not very often that you find a film tie-in game that is actually decent. When I first played this game it absolutely blew me away! Sure, the graphics may be a bit dated by today's standards but the combat in this game is unmatched. I have also played the PSP version. Despite the control scheme being different due to the PSP not having a right analog stick, they did a great job porting the game over. Sure, the textures are a lot more muddy looking than the PS2 version and there is a lack of blood but it is still loads of fun. 👍

For Brawling, I'd say Yakuza 0. It has the great action the Yakuza games are known for and the different fighting styles gives you plenty of options in combat.

For Fighting, I'd say Super Smash Bros. Melee. I hate having to put in complex inputs to do moves, so having simple commands instead is ideal for me. Plus it's the one I played the most out of the Smash Bros. games.

1.) Garou: Mark of the Wolves
2.) Street Fighter III: Third Strike
3.) Samurai Shodown II
4.) Street Fighter 6
5.) KOF '96
6.) Ninja Masters
7.) Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX (Zero 3 Double-Upper)
8.) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core plus R
9.) Tekken 6
10.) Virtua Fighter III
11.) Real Bout Fatal Fury 2
12.) Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
13.) Blazblue Centralfiction
14.) Marvel vs. Capcom 2
15.) Tekken 8
16.) KOF XIV
17.) Breakers Revenge
18.) Darkstalkers 3: Vampire Savior
19.) Guilty Gear -Strive-
20.) KOF XV

tempting to keep listing but I'll cut it off there hehe

There’s really a ton of great ones, my personal favorite is Arcana Heart 3 Suggoi!!! (Love Max!!!)

Has a lot of little mechanics that other don’t,
homing dash, forward projectile barrier, use burst escape more frequently instead of just once and getting pummeled for every other combo, and being able to change half a character’s move set just with picking a different arcana is awesome and efficient.

And it’s made to be a pure fighting game, no long story or leveling up, just jump in and fly around punching someone.

Backgrounds are simple but cool looking when you do the arcana burst mode too.

The side animation thing is kinda weird I turn it off

Just going for normal Fighting games, I'm not great at them so they need significant single player content and interesting characters to make me care. My favorites are probably Mortal Kombat Deception (PS2), Mortal Kombat X (PS4) and Injustice: Gods Among Us (PS3/4). All have great characters and really good single player content, plus I'm just a general MK and DC fan.

My definite favorite is the Arcana Heart series (if my current avatar hasn't given that away already). Most people don't know the series, and those who do avoid it like the plague. As divisive of a first impression as the roster of characters are at glance, there is a hidden depth to the characters if you given the series a chance. Arcana Heart 3 LOVE MAX!!!! (and all future versions after that one), gave us After Story and the Memories stories for all characters (barring 3 characters who come after LOVE MAX!!!!) to delve deeper into their daily lives, struggles, and relationships with other the characters. The battle system is really unique compared to other games in the genre with you having the ability to home in a higher altitude and do follow-up combos there. Although, as much as I love the series, I suck at playing the games... ^^'

My other favorite that I played and had good memories of was UnderNight In-Birth series, I'm nowhere near into that series as Arcana Heart, but I feel like it's a good series for someone who wants to get into fighting games as the game play is simpler compared to Arcana Heart's and some ways to help the player understand the system.

Under Night, Melty Blood, Mortal Kombat 9 and Tekken 6 are some of my favorites. I tend to value games that feel very "freeing" in the sense that character movement feels fast and fluid with a roster full of diverse functions that can be played in a number of ways. Under Night's grid system is the best attempt at purposefully pacing out matches that I have ever seen and I love that like many other anime fighters it just goes balls to the wall with its archetypes, letting characters do things that would be unthinkably overpowered in other franchises and yet are perfectly average in the context of UNI itself.

Melty Blood is also just attached to Tsukihime, a VN I adore. It maintains that fast and fluid movement that makes me love anime games whilst having more verticality than UNI. Raito also just composes some of the biggest bops in the entire genre, that man is a god damn genius.
