Gintama will probably be my numer one pick always.
It's a show I'd recommend to anyone, at any point, at any time of the day or year.
Though whenever I recommend it to somebody I have an issue with putting it into words what is it that makes it my favorite. Gintama does a lot of stuff for me, it's a great comedy show but at the same time it's a great drama show. It's a great shonen but at the same time it's a great seinen. It's self-aware but at the same time it takes itself seriously when it needs to.
Gintama is an everything show to me, it showed me that a story doesn't have to play by the rules. Pair that with it coming at the perfect point in my life and it has now greatly inspired me to strive to create something like it.

My favourite at this very moment... probably Kino No Tabi.
My favourite of all time though... that honour goes to K-On.

My current favourite is... Honestly don't know, haven't watched anything recently, but if I had to pick a newer anime I'd say Dr Stone is pretty fun and good. Sakamoto Days recently got an anime, don't know how good that is but the manga is good.
My favourite of all time will always be the FLCL OVA though.

Kinda conflicted as I actually enjoy the ongoing mangas than my top 5 animes. Then there is also games with anime characters I been playing a lot...nier mostly and card-en-ciel.

Favorite anime ever it's probably the Monogatari series, and right now I'm really into Toaru Majutsu no Index/A Certain Magical Index and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun/A Certain Scientific Railgun. As a STEM subject student I really really love the Science/Magic duality, it really hits home. And the characters in general are really great. There's a lot of stuff to read too so I'll most likely never get that classic feeling of void you get after you finish a series you really like lol

ALL time favorite tho, Is Gintama.

For finished ones it’s probably GTO.
For ”ongoing” it’s easily Dungeon Meshi. It’s like it was made specifically for me.

For movies, I think I have to go with Nausica, or Kiki.

To be fair, there's lots of great anime and manga coming out. Instagram and TikTok aren't exactly representative of what actually comes out, it's representative of what mindless garbage slop the average kid consumes. Sakamoto Days, Dandadan, CSM, Delicious in Dungeon, Frierin all came out in the past 1-3 years and although not all of them are for me personally it's undeniable all of them are of significant quality. We like to pretend we didn't get straight garbage back in the early 2000's but the truth is for every incredible anime we got back then there was 10 absolutely dogshit abysmal ones that never left Japan. Because they sucked. Nowadays everything airs everywhere so we're bound to see all the trash that gets released. The issue that manga is an extremely oversaturated market is very true, but to say that it hasn't become higher quality is a disservice to creative people who put stuff out that leaves an impact. I'd take Mob Psycho 100 over a good majority of the anime from the 90s to the 2000s for example.

My partner and I ran through the new Netflix remake of Ranma and it was AMAZING. Probably the highest production animation I've seen in a long time. Once we ran out of those, we decided to start watching the original 1990 series and shiver my timbers if that show doesn't hold up timelessly.

I'm watching the original one these days started the last month, and I totally agree.
There aren't many anime in the '80/'90 with animations and drawings that can be compared to these one's. I tried to watch the 2024 one, but I'm not interested. Mainly because I don't like how the chose the coloring.

Kill La Kill.
Tried it few weeks, but dropped it after the second episode.

My favorite anime is a an old one made by Toei from the 1970s called King Arthur and the Knights of The Round Table. To this day its the best animated adaptation of the Arthurian legend I've seen.

It has the classic elements such as pulling the sword from the stone, Merlin the wizard as the old wiseman living in the woods, the finding of Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake, the gathering of the knights of the round table with their own specific episodes, etc.

But what makes it so good IMHO, is that it deals with themes like injustice, poverty, and human loss, and the deaths of the characters throughout the series that you don't expect and you feel their weight, but they are very few and far in between, so that the series is not overflowed with them just for exploitation sake.

There are however two main changes in regards to the original source material: 1) the setting is shifted to about 15 years earlier where instead of the characters meeting upon reaching adulthood they do so around the 15 years of age mark since its a shounen and 2) Morgan Le Fay being repalced by generic witch in order to avoid incest innuendos since its a story made for kids.

Man, thank you for your words. You put into words exactly How I feel. People act like there Is a cut off point for stuff not being good anymore and always put arbritary statiscs and the abundante of isekai or other slop that IS never that much in discussion to prove their point like there was none of It before, It always boggles my mind. Its weird because you'd see the same kind of discussion happenning in like 2015 or earlier but instead of isekai It would be moe/harem and now people say those were the good days.

People just love to complain, it's in our nature. Unfortunately most of the time it's for stupid nonsense like this. Isekai has always been slop for as long as I remember, people like to drag on SAO but forget just how many other garbage anime we had that were just like it if not worse during that time period. There's tons of good anime, manga, games, shows, movies it's just that you've gone out of your way to surround yourself with garbage slop on social media because that's what gets clicks. People love to see bad things and complain, loving things doesn't get half as much clicks as hating things does. You are what you feed your brain.
