I remember when I was a child, My mom and I would go to the market because we didn't have much money. She would buy things and movies for me. What were your experiences like?

In the market in front of my house it used to be a small shop layered with a grid, in that grid lots of "legal" DVDs of movies and cartoon episodes were, i remember than when i was 9 my mon buyed for me a DVD with none other than Cars, we watched it together with sandwiches

South America always had far more ripped DVDs than originals that many people bought. I remember when I was a child, I had a shelf full of them.

Are we talking about movies, or DVDs in general? I grew up in the era of VHS tapes, so DVDs were not a part of my childhood until the PS2 came out; and even then that was only for those PS2 games that were on DVD and weren't the blue CDs. Hell, I didn't even start using DVDs as an archival media until the early 2010s; I was still using CD backups. It wasn't until .mkv became the standard video format for fansubs that I had to start using DVDs because I would only be able to fit 1, maybe 2, episodes of anime onto a CD, and I didn't have access to cheap, larger capacity HDDs, so DVDs were the new medium.

I only own a few of the original ones, mostly from discounts and/or free prize.

I'm usually buys the pirated one that varies from 5k IDR-15k IDR (0.3-1USD) ranging from WWE shows, animes, music video, etc.

Still have a few dozen of it at some drawer in my home, tho the last i remember watching them is covid so i doubt most of them is still working properly.

here's a picture of one of my collection, it's MK Conquest(the late 90s live action series) yet has this random image of Frost cosplayer and Raiden from MK vs DC,which looks nothing like Raiden from the series at all.

dvds were part of my childhood so i can say i do and still love dvds

i remember i owned a box that had like more than 5 movies which one of them was mlp the first movie (2013) if i recall. i wish they are still round too much but i guess streaming platforms and pretty much files that you can seed to get any movie killed dvd pretty quickly when these two became more populated in today's tech world

i like dvds. i used to have a jvc dvd player as a kid, i had a sandokan dvd, shit was so scratched it'd freeze halfway, always put it on before i went to bed, dunno why.

also used to convert dvds to digital files back when that was still a thing.

Nothing but good. I prefer them over streaming, actually.

It felt nice to finally not having to rewind each time and being able to select chapters.

I used to rent them at our Blockbuster, it was quite an experience that I kind of miss: we now just let someone pick a movie, and then just get together when the food arrives.

My father used to love pirated DVDs, I really dont know why... I think he just felt like he beat the system by paying like 3 bucks for a movie and now 25 (or however they cost back then), even if most of them locked like ass.

For me, DVDs where mainly used for gaming on the PS2/X360 (original games btw, I used to always fail at burning games lol), and now I think I will start burning some games on it.

My family used vhs for awhile I think I got my first dvd around 2006 but I still used the vcr to record stuff off TV into the early 2010s. I still buy DVDs from time to time I need to do it more often to support independent films

Didn't have any DVDs until I had a PS2, then I just picked stuff up normally, I guess? The same experience as any other medium that's existed. Sold a lot off in the mid-2000s, have kept a small handful. I doubt any of them are like the Stadium Events of DVDs or whatever.

It mostly started with me having our new "Family Computer" having a DVD drive in 2006. My first dvds were Hot Shots: Part Deux, the original Mortal Kombat movie, and a Digiview copy of "A Corny Concerto". It felt amazing to watch anything I wanted. Then I found out the library had DVDs that you could borrow and I was officially hooked (not to mention the Walgreens across the street from me having a slew of Bargin bin titles like Sonny Chiba's Street Fighter. It was amazing getting snacks and mindless garbage to enjoy on a Saturday afternoon)

Then later I'd get a PS2 and start working at goodwill and with DVDs being as cheap as they are, I started building a collection of my favorite movies or ones that just looked interesting

Still use a dvd player and still have a portable one for my mini PC I gave a pile of my wwe dvds away there for christmas. Im sure ill start a collection again when i feel like it.

My dad used to have a video rental store. Rows and rows of DVD and VHS cases stacked on the shelves, Hollywood and Bollywood films. Along with posters of the latest releases turned a drab store into a colourful and lively place.

Man we have lost ALOT due to the shift to online distribution. That rental store acted as a meeting place for many migrants looking for a film to wind down the work week with. A chance to recreate a little bit of home with their fellow housemates.
