What is the worst SEGA game?

A couple contenders, depending on your definition of it.

Worst Sega game on one of their systems? Gonna go for the Make My Video series on the Sega CD. FMV at its absolute nadir, and does not help the CD's reputation.

Worst to come from their own R&D branches (AKA Sonic Team)? Sonic Free Riders. Yeah, everyone dunks on '06, but at least you don't have to tolerate the Kinect (not to mention Flynn literally forgetting its existence when making the Encyclospeedia).

There's also Sonic Jam on the Game.com, which was his first outing outside a Sega system. To put it bluntly, it's a total dumpster fire like the system is (barring its intended innovations).

Sonic 06 is bad; Sonic Boom Rise Of Lyric is worse.

Now the worst Sega game of all time?

Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis (2006) For The Gameboy Advance is terrible but that's a port right, so does it count? I don't think so.

Then how about The Golden Compass (2007) a game so bad it is ridiculous. Not only the story makes no sense unless you have read the book or watched the movie, the thing is pratically unplayable, more so if you are playing the horrible PC version. But even the better ranked versions are horrible.

The answer to this question is probably very opinion-based...

I guess the Sega game that i like the least is Nightmare Circus (md).
Oh GOD that's another really good contender. The Genesis and Beat em' ups are not as good of a pairing as people say they are IMO. Yeah Sor 1-2, bare knuckle 3 and hyperstone heist are good and mystical fighter is decent, but the rest of em are either some of the worst games of the entire generation like dj boy or toxic crusaders, or simply had better ports elsewhere like 90% of it's arcade ports or Maximum Carnage. Don't even get me STARTED on Paprium, how the people responsible for that game haven't been sued outta their shorts is beyond me💀.

Don't know if anyone is gonna agree, but MAN do I despise this game. No wonder Alex Kidd didn't make it past the 80s for a long time.

NONE. All Sega games are good. 😤 😤 😤
(Also why are people listing games not developed by Sega)
Good point!
However, i'm not sure the question of thread is about worst games released on Sega platforms, or games developed by Sega.

If we are talking about games developed by Sega, currently i don't remember any bad game...

If we are talking about games released on Sega platforms, another that i remembered is Onslaught (md)... and i once played it to the end, just to see what is it! 😂

yeah the topic is open ended enough to be interpreted as any game on a Sega platform. I'm not trying to police the thread, just though it was interesting. The only Mega Drive game I really remember hating was Cyborg Justice. It was a cool concept, building your own combat robot. It just doesn't control all that well and the game only has like 2 backgrounds. Was frustrating and bland.

By far one of the worst and most dreadful JRPGs I've ever played, Phantasy Star III is a game that has a lot of cool concepts but they're executed in a horrible way, the characters don't have any personality, the dialogue is mostly exposition dumps, the graphics are terrible and the music is really bad overall.

I would imagine any games published by Sega using their IPs is fair game.

Awful port, there was no excuse for how bad this was.
If they own the IP I would count it.
Last I checked we still don't know who was responsible for this GBA port. 🤣 I remember reading it was outsourced somewhere.

I remember this one... it was indeed bland for me too... however, if you are looking for a worse one, Rise of the Robots (md) is another candidate for the worst game!

posted right after mine showin this avatar xD

I think Miracle World, along with Kid(d?) Chameleon were 2 of the most brilliant 2D platformers ever.

the following Alex Kidd games were a diverse n interesting lot, but overloaded with caveats. Alex Kidd in Shinobi World would've been great if it were 2x as long with considerably increased difficulty.

I certainly don't think Enchanted Castle was the worst of the lot,, but... unimaginatively linear level designs let it down ultimately from measuring up.

n if anyone who has played The Cyber Shinobi n doesn't agree it's the top (bottom?) of the heap as far as terrible Sega games.... then should we conclude they are Shinobi apologists to a mentaLLy deranged degree?? idk go try the rom n see for yourself but don't blame me for any PTSD repercussions that The Cyber SHITnobi might onset for ya

Thankfully, the next game in the Phantasy Star series, Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, is a masterpiece.

Phantasy Star IV is a fantastic game, by far one of the best JRPGs of all time.

Phantasy Star IV is also one of the best games ever made in my opinion.

I'm officially changing my entry!!

Sorry, gang, it's definitely Phantasy Star III. It's bad. Like, bad bad. So bad that the P-Star fanboy in me can't even make any excuses for it 😭

As the above poster stated, though, the bounce-back with PSIV was real. Glad that Sega took the series seriously again, after giving us the complete afterthought that was Phantasy Star III...

At least the generational branching system was cool, I guess. And it gave us Wren. So I suppose it wasn't ALL bad, but I'll be damned if I even so much as think about playing PSIII again.

I have a lovely Phantasy Star collection, of nearly all the games in the series. But not PSIII. It is absolutely not welcome in my house 💀
