This is kind of the opposite of the previous thread I made "what games didn't live up to the hype for you all"

What is a game that is seen as middling to bad that everyone here likes or maybe even counts among their favorites, either in general or by fans of the series it is a part of?

for me its Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity , its generally seen as the worst pmd game but I love the story, characters and more unique shapes of the randomly generated dungeons and the unique mechanics like team attacks for it, also building the paradise was great. That game is why Hydreigon is my favorite pokemon

The thread title can be used in a lot of ways

I think my game would be Crash Twinsanity. Despite the sells, reviews and ratings, I think it would be a much better game if it wasn't rushed due to one year timeframe

Duke Nukem Forever. I get it's a rushed job and it wasn't anything to the expectations that people had for the game, but everytime I've sat down to play it, I've had a fun time and I've probably played it all the way through 5-6 times in my life time.

Well, Crash fans are usually fond of this game, right?

Monark comes to mind

The game didn't spoon feed you most of the important things ,and this made a lot of people hate it because it's "grindy".shame tbh because it had a very unique battle system and a very entertaing story
And also caligula effect

Well this one has more flaws than Monark ,but the story and the characters were too good that it redeemed it ,also has one of the most unique battle systems too that has been more polished in the sequel which everyone loved

I've played Caligula on Psvita and loved it, I've the overdose version on switch. Actually I'm curious about the second game

Ninja blade by From software

Hear me out.

It felt like an easier, more cheesy version of Nina Gaiden and it just had a charm. There was a lot of Jank within the game, the story tends to be all over the place, but i enjoyed it start to end seeing all the From soft design elements within. And this was when they where still trying to find their 7th Gen feet, which did not truly happen till Demons Souls (which i also got an import copy and loved) started momentum towards Dark Souls and the rest is history.

The overdose is much better ,since you can be a musician there which is a huge plus also there is new interesting characters .
I really recommend playing overdose just for the musician route (this does not mean going for the musician ending ,you can befriend the musicians and also reach the good ending)
The second game is more polished in term of gameplay and all that ,but I still prefer the overdose one in term of story

Well, all the titles like Diamond Twister, Jewel Quest, Bejeweled etc, where you have to match 3 or more of the same elements to cancel them and reach various increasingly complex objectives. It seems that these games are no longer popular, since they are never mentioned by anyone (except me) but personally I find them fantastic when you have little time available and want to play a game on the fly, and without too many complexities (like following a plot), especially on DS (armed with stylus) or on my old strategic keypad Nokia phone. 😉

Shadow the hedgehog comes to Mind
Idk i just find it really neat

This was a surprisingly tricky question... But I think maybe Little Dragons Café? Excellent concept, pretty botched execution. I can see the potential within, though, and maybe one day someone will either fix it so it reaches its potential or get inspired by it.

View attachment 11760This game is incredibly underrated, it makes me sad that it's considered one of the worst RPGs of the sixth generation.

It wasn't a pick up and play / easy to figure out kindov game, that" hurt "the game in terms of popularity but that's part of what makes it so unique and fun.

I love when the devs have the balls to change a license like that, and I absolutely love Ryu's and Nina's design and the whole game's atmosphere.

Tales of Monkey Island.
Sure, it isn't as good as the other Monkey Island games. But it's damn well better than Escape from Monkey Island.

FNAF World.
Sure it's a very limited RPG with some major flaws in its mechanics. But it's both fun and charming, and easily the best game in the FNAF franchise.

Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing.
Despite not being as popular as Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, it had much better driving physics, and was more fun as a result. (Team Sonic Racing is just bad though.)

And an honourable mention goes to Sonic R.
Ok, Sonic R is without a doubt, a bad game.
But the reasons why it's bad is also why I like it. The open track design feels more at home as a sandbox level in a 3D platformer. This means that it a track can take anywhere from 3 minutes to 30 seconds to complete, depending on whether you take the intended route or all of the shortcuts. That is just bad game design. But this complete lack of balance kind of makes it fun to mess around in, especially to explore the levels.
That being said, it gets an honourable mention, because let's face it, I'm never going to defend it. It IS a bad game. Just one that I enjoy.

I think both of these are decently well-liked.

Those eyes. he may be a ninja, but rest assured, is his job:
the more imsomnia in his eyes he has, the more gets better paid.
I can feel the story behind that suffering...

Oh and of course

Reviewers took the opportunity to indulge in some virtue signaling by boiling the game down to "pervert game bad me holy", turns out it's deeper and more subtle than you'd expect.

I bought it because I always loved the whole design and atmosphere of the Nippon Ichi games (my brother is a Disgaea fan), but I don't like tactical RPG, so I was hype to play a Nippon Ichi RPG. Had no idea what the game was about except the whole going through hell concept, I was suprised by how minimalist it was in terms of aesthetics (the attacks aren't even animated) and the weird pacing of the game.

In my top 5 vita games, and I love the Vita.
