For me, it’s Secret of Mana. It’s one of the most beloved SNES/SFC titles, but I found it to just not be engaging to me, with not enough of a scenario to keep me engaged in those crucial first few minutes. More than that, though, I just didn’t click with the gameplay. I hope I fall in love with it later in life though, as it’s beautiful!

Off the top of my head, probably eternal sonata.

Secret of mana is kinda meh until you get a full party, so i get where your coming from, doesn't help that the hit detection and invincibility frames take some getting used to.

I would have to say the Shining Force series since I generally dislike the tactical grid based genre but would really like to enjoy more of Sega's glory days RPGs that I missed out on. I can get into a couple of tactics rpgs like Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle Tactics, but everything else I tried loses my interests aka Fire Emblem, Disgaea, ect ect

Vandal hearts might be worth a try considering the ones you like, to me it sounds like your problem is more mechanical than type, but hey i could be wrong.
