When I was a kid my answer would've been Robot Boy from Cartoon Network. While everyone else was apparently busy with My Life as a Teenage Robot, I was watching this show about an adorable little robot boy who, once per episode, would beat up bad guys by transforming into this über powerful being where all of his limbs would extend and he became something out of a MegaMan X game! So cool!!

Yes, I think there were flashgames, but I hardly count those.

Prison Break.

Courage the cowardly dog.

My idea is the following: If you played that shockwave puzzle game from cartoon network years ago, it would be something like that. The camera would be more from the side rather than top-down and the game would use 2.5D graphics.

The game would be split in episodes (each with their own plot). After each episode, you would gain more access to new areas both inside and outside the house.

Besides solving puzzles, you would have to deal with enemies within each level. Some times it will be regular enemies, other times it will be enemies more akin to horror games. There would be bosses too.

If courage gets beaten enough times, he dies from that. But if courage gets scared too much, he dies of a heart attack.

The game would use an inventory system with key items, but in context-sensitive occasions Courage will pick a temporarily item out of nowhere in pure cartoon fashion. Sometimes this will be combined with a surprise quick-time event, such as pressing a button to have courage pick up a baseball bat to hit a monster that just appeared.

I want a real Shangri-La Frontier, but I know that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I don't know. Most movies and shows I can think of already have a game, even if most of them are utter trash.

As I was saying:

Hidden gem

  • Black Dynamite: Make it an open-world game like GTA or Like A Dragon. Extra experience points or rewards awarded for how badass your methods of completing missions is.
  • Castaway on the Moon: Survival game where you use discarded day-to-day objects to figure out how to survive on an urban island.
  • Alice (1988 Czech film): Adventure/quasi-horror game.
  • Big Trouble in Little China: This movie always felt very video gamey anyways. Maybe a beat em up or action game ala GoW? I'd say fighting game, but Mortal Kombat basically did that.
  • The Dark Crystal: It had a text adventure, but it deserves something much grander.
  • The Neverending Story: This movie is so close to being a Legend of Zelda movie I don't get why nobody has made a game of it yet.
  • Pan's Labyrinth: Would work well as an adventure/horror game. Same goes for some other Guillermo del Toro films, like The Shape of Water.
  • Perfume: The Story of a Murderer: Would make a great open-world with a unique system (using your super-powered sense of smell to complete tasks).
  • An American Werewolf in London: Okay, we first have to wait until the child-murdering director dies so he can't profit off of it. But after that, this would be a really interesting game.
  • Little Shop of Horrors or Sweeney Todd: Has a stage musical game been made yet? Would be interesting to see a game suddenly switch over to a musical number in the middle of the action.
  • They Live: The second and third acts of the movie lend it very well to a FPS.
  • Twin Peaks: Yes, multiple games have aped it. But we should get the real thing too.

While there are certainly games that measure the character's fear or heartrate, I'm not sure if anyone has made a game where you can straight up die from fear. Interesting concept.

Fun fact, though not really the same, when I first played Silent Hill 2 and heard how exhausted James got from running, I would stop up and let him catch his breath, fearing - because the artstyle was so realistic and I had never had a game character losing their breath before - that he could die from exhaustion.

I am gonna chime in again and say: any Studio Ghibli movie. Like, in the Secret World of Arriety she picks up a needle at some point and comments that she can use it to keep danger away, but she end up never using it.

I need a Blame roguelike. I'm no longer asking.

Any game with Švankmajer‘s aesthetic would be killer basically. Even if it was just a point and click adventure animated in stop motion like the neverhood.

There was a rather shit C64 game funny enough

Would be fun but the author of the book, Michael Ende, was very vocal about how much he hated the movie adaptation, especially the sequels, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some clause that no games can be made of his properties. Just speculating though. He died in 1995 by which the neverending story was no longer a valuable franchise so maybe there is a possibility after all.

A game based on The Raid would basically be Die Hard Arcade with Silat combat. The potential is there. Somebody said Akira, it's a shame it didn't get anything good made with it at the time, not even a cool side-scroller. I also second Zatoichi, it probably would've made a good PS2 action-adventure/hack-n-slash if the franchise had still been big by then.
I don't think my favorite movies or tv shows should get video games though, none of them really fit.

EDIT - Well, there's a couple games based on the Crows manga that were never released in English, but the Crows Zero movies (especially the first one) would make for a great game. Kenka Banchou is a similar concept, but you do much better combat and story.

I'd love a really good One Piece game, especially in the style of Sparking Zero or Ultimate Ninja. I want a huge roster and tons of fan service centered on addictive gameplay.

Also, I kind of love the idea of a multiplayer Squid Game video game... or a Mario Party style one. >>;;;

The Phantom Tollbooth as a side-scrolling, turn-based RPG in the style of Child of Light

You know what? I'm just going to say it.

Bob's Burgers

I would totally love to see Bob get a video game. I mean c'mon, it's been around since 2011 and no video game. I think the Belchers are long overdue for a video game debut.

It does already have a video game based on it, but I want a proper The Thing video game. The existing one has some neat ideas, but I think they could be done much better. It'd be a shorter game, first person, around 6-8 hours long, maybe 10 if you're feeling extra spicy. I could see it taking place on the mainland, but I think McMurdo Station is the next logical place. It was mentioned in the movie and it's way bigger than the American and Norwegian stations combined.

A friend of mine brought up a pretty great point while we were watching the movie together. What exactly is stopping the Thing from just like, leaving the base? It won't die, it'll only be frozen. It doesn't even have to go very far! There will be people investigating both stations eventually and I doubt they'd stay entirely within the confines of the base when conducting an investigation, especially when the bodies of most the people in the station are unaccounted for. So it could just travel within super easy walking distance and start hibernating. Maybe it was afraid of being covered in snow and nobody would ever find it? But it being found is a lot easier to believe over there being a secret research base underground that has been experimenting on the Thing for awhile. x)

Anyway, people from McMurdo Station come to investigate, find the frozen Thing and take it back with the other bodies they could find to base for examination/autopsy. Shenanigans happen and now it's loose in the base. It is basically the exact same setup to both of the films, but someone smarter than me could spice it up some. The game would probably take place a few days or weeks after the Thing's escape.

I could see it being a bit like Alien: Isolation from here on, lots of sneaking and scavenging, but you can actually kill one of the Things with the right equipment, unlike the xenomorph. It'd have to be balanced so that you could only find enough supplies to kill a few of them though, never all of them.

You'd find other survivors and depending on stuff like time or decisions or the order in which you visit places would determine who is infected or not. People would eventually figure out what triggers what, but most people aren't going to spoil themselves I'd imagine. Even if they watch, I dunno, Markiplier or someone play through it, they could play or watch another playthrough that has entirely different characters be infected and such.

I'm not exactly sure where the story would go. You could do the usual wanting to escape thing, but it'd be neat if your character realizes what's going on and tries to prevent it from getting out, like at the end of the movie. Which movie am I talking about? I don't know what you mean, there's only the movie from 1982! :p Maybe your ultimate goal would depend on who your allies are or depend on the choices you've made?

The whole thing is that I want to keep it in a relatively small area and have a story with a small scope. I'd want to keep it small because that would make it more reasonable to have multiple possibilities. I'd rather a game only have one or two choices that change the entire story (like Front Mission 3 or Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together) instead of a bunch that lead to a line of dialogue or short scene. I'd want more than just two options, but I think you can see what I'm getting at. Ennio Morricone would have to do the soundtrack, so we'd need some necromancy to bring him back. Hey, my idea isn't going to happen, might as well get everyone I want! :> I'd want John Carpenter involved in some way, but I'm not exactly sure how or to what degree. He did endorse the other game though, so maybe his expertise cannot be trusted anymore.

Phew, that's a whole lot of words. Yes, I have given this more than a little thought. x) Ultimately I'd settle for a lot less as long as it's closer to the vibe of the film. Hell, I'd even take a Telltale style game if I had to, though I know Telltale is a dirty word now. But I said style! It doesn't have to be Telltale, I'm sure other developers could spice up the formula. Anyway, that's the end of that. I can't see this ever happening, but who knows?
