Fairly sure there was a topic like this one already, but couldn't find it.

Anyway... What sort of game or genre helps you unwind after a long day of work/school/surviving? Personally, I'm all about those those open-world driving games.

I don't need a million objectives to complete, a time limit to beat, or opponents to defeat to get my stress levels down. I just need to drive around a nice-looking area while steering an awesome car through streets and landscapes so beautiful as to get my imagination going, and that's something that I have been doing since my Need For Speed III days.

What about you?

GTA with its open world design is the most relaxed I am while gaming. Doing side tasks, interacting with the characters and hearing their witty dialogue or just jamming out to the radio. Always a jolly ol time.

Totally! I was gonna suggest it, but there are moments when the game makes me genuinely mad as well XD

Wow, for me. Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 with mods, just the scenery & open world exploration is awesome. Riding a train blowing the whistle & ringing the bell while bounty hunters are chasing you. Playing the mini-games is fun. Just spawning npc's, animals, literally causing mass hysteria is hilarious like controlling the weather for example.

Sometimes I just hop on a fighting game and spend a few minutes practicing combos or finding out new things, sometimes I just drive around in stuff like ETS2 or something, or maybe I just play some Doom. I used to do that as well regarding Dino Crisis, which I plan to go back to doing that as soon as I can.

rhythm and puzzle drop games; i just go into flow state, and enjoy them, win or lose

i totally get why you would say doom! awesome choice!

Life Sims mostly, the problem is that I don't play many of them. And I do need a break from stressful arcade experiences lol.

Wonder Project J2 was relaxing when I wasn't on a stressful minigame. But I beat that game.
Animal Crossing New Horizons was relaxing overall, but after the novel phrase there's just nothing to do in this game.

For semi-relaxing games I guess Roller Coaster Tycoon and Spore.
Visual novels can be relaxing sometimes too. Although I have to be in a mood to read.

EDIT: Breath of the Wild had it's relaxing parts too. But I grew tired of that game.

I’m the type of gamer who’s into most genre. That being said I do love games from the 8bit to 32bit era no matter how difficult games could be at times. I don’t know if it somehow reminds of simpler times or whatever but it is sure really puts me at ease.

I'm gonna be a little more unorthodox now. I felt somewhat relaxed playing Magical Popn' on a CRT. Despite being an action game with limited lives, you're not always in a lot of danger all of the time and there's plenty of exploration. Also, the game is very vibey and pretty.

role playing games, blue forest story, blood was beautiful, chrono cross, the works
horror games too for their methodical nature and the erotism of twilight evenings
casino games like virtual casino for the sega saturn due to their very light breezy sound design and simple gameplay

Ok I'm gonna bring in the big guns now: SMB1 rom hacks

NOT ALL OF THEM mind you, but some are easy enough to keep you relaxed. SMB1 is such a relaxing game to just look at like no one other. It's the proof that sometimes complex graphics or more features just get in the way.

This level of UT is very comfy, i love to customize it with low gravity and other things:
Besides that, i love to play GTA Vice City and make high jumps with the vehicles of the game.
Other games i like to replay for some chill moments: Pokemon Blue/Gold/Crystal, The Punisher (both the Arcade and Sega Versions), Castlevania Circle of the Moon/Aria of Sorrow, Super Robot Wars J and Pokémon Pinball.

No longer playable, but this is probably the most relaxing game I ever played. I miss it.

It was a multiplayer Mario Maker of sorts, except one or multiple people could edit the level in real time as others would join in.

Pottery games are very relaxing for me...

Other than that... i might go for games of my childhood... because i'm deeply familiar with them and i can play them even in sleep, so they are more relaxing than any new game.

Playing new games usually somewhat excite/irritate me instead of making me relaxed.

I think the Donkey Kong Country games are very relaxing games. This goes for the original Rare trilogy as well as the Retro Studio games. They can be difficult at times, but I still think they're a treat.

I can relax to DKC music or enjoy the atmosphere that comes with these games.

I don't feel like games are relaxing. They're entertaining, immersive, engaging but never quite relaxing. Having to put some level of concentration and understanding to complete whatever goal they offer.
