What are your favorite Namco arcade games?

My all time personal favorite has to be Mappy (1983)! It controls really fluidly, the gameplay is also extremely entertaining and addicting. The soundtrack is incredibly good! It's pretty jaunty, catchy, and superbly well composed by Nobuyuki Ohnogi. If you happen to not be familiar with it, it’s about a mouse police officer raiding a house full of cats, you use doors and trampolines to evade or strike back at the cats. The main goal is to collect stolen goods and art. Really unique and novel concept! The sprite art (and box art) by Hiroshi Ono are so cute and adorable.

(I always try to mention the names of the people behind these games, they don’t get enough credit in my opinion.)


I could play it for hours and never be tired of it! Such a blast! It’s one of the most perfect and fun Arcade games I’ve ever played!

Wow it has fanfiction...? Huh. I didn't know Namco games, Splatterhouse for that matter, could have such "devoted" fans. Cool site though, l really appreciate all the effort put in to it! Thanks for sharing, always fascinating to find websites like that!

I played this in a Wal-Mart when I was younger.

This. I played it exactly once and had to stretch to even reach tye pedals, but it was so bombastic and high energy that I never forgot it.

Pac-Man and Soul Calibur 2 cabinets were both nearby my old town, the seniors could arrange their classes to get out early (or just skip class, of course) to go bombing around. We'd skulk around the arcades till we were out of loose change, or someone had an exciting new way to wreck their truck. (Small towns can get a little boring, makes people crazy. Twin Peaks, basically.)
