What are some of your most underrated platformers that STILL haven’t gotten the attention they deserve, even in this YouTuber ridden era where tons of games are dredged up to be given a wider audience?

For me, it varies depending on what I know. But it would probably be Blinx 2, Astal, Ninpen Manmaru, and Klonoa: Empire of Dreams. That said, I can think of a few that are not necessarily unknown, but have a negative stigma around them THANKS to said YouTubers that they don’t really deserve. The main one being Jumping Flash!, a game I bought this week, and adore with all my heart.

I should note: Ninpen Manmaru is actually a licensed game. This introduces a spaner into the works of if we should count licensed games. I say we should. As a result, I actually think Ratatouille is quite the impressive effort for what it was. Releasing across all consoles of the sixth and seventh generations, as well as PC and handhelds, the main version of the game is a fun platformer that has strong character gameplay and levels that make full use of the small size your character plays from. It’s quite good.

No one agrees anymore what is and isn’t underrated so this is quite hard to narrow down but Momodora is my pick, and some other niche Metroidvanias. List too long. Idk if those count though since they’re more action games than pure platformers.

One of my favourite less-known platformers is the Umihara Kawase series. The best one is probably Sayonara Umihara Kawase for the 3DS and Vita. Quirky little platformer with physics-based swinging mechanics, it's really fun trying to master the game and beat old high-scores!

(P.S. I LOVED Blinx)

Rockin Katz on NES, a fun little plataformer where you play as a cat with the biggest weapon in toonland: the retractable boxing glove
This is what I’m talking about! Never heard of it, but you bet I’ll emulate it when I get the chance!

Based. I love Umihara Kawase. I think the aesthetic of the SNES ones are so comfy for some reason lol. I always wanted to learn to do some speedrun on it, seems tough af and fun

Good to know, alas, be wary of some of the levels being flatout cheap if you don't know the tricks (like attacking a wall to bounce of it, ditto for the floor) and grabbing in the roofs to spin may be tricky, still doable

Mighty Bomb Jack on the NES
None one heard of it at the time, its never on any lists, it just kind of fell through the cracks.
which is sad because its a great tricky game.

View attachment 43163Thankfully it always gets re-released! I’ll have to check it out via NSO when I get back to my Switch.
