What are some underrated gems?

I don't see UN Squadron talked about much, but I think it's the best scrolling shooter on the SNES. Space Megaforce would probably be my #2.

Skyblazer is a very fun action platformer that I never see discussed either.

Donkey Kong '94 and Run Saber were great picks as well
UN Squadron, Skyblazer, and Space Megaforce mentioned? You win the thread! Good game everyone.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Despite the words Final Fantasy, it's a somewhat obscure game, being the black sheep of the series. It is simple, meant to be a beginner's RPG, but it's still fun. You can jump, and use weapons to solve basic puzzles. You can save anywhere outside of a battle, and there are no random battles, as you see the enemies on the screen ahead of time, so in a way it was ahead of its time. The story is basically nonexistent, but because of that the game also doesn't drag and has a nice pace to it. Most importantly, it has an excellent soundtrack. It's never been ported elsewhere, so it's only on the SNES, a crime that is unlikely to change given the game's middling reviews and lack of popularity.

It's meant to be an entry-level JRPG for kids. I think it does a good job of this.
I would totally give an 8 year old this game as a first JRPG.
And that MUSIC!

I picked up a copy of Gitaroo Man when it was first released for the PSP in what feels like a long time ago. At the time I had no idea that it was a port of a PS2 game. It's a rhythm game of sorts with an interesting and quirky storyline. The gameplay can be challenging at times but check it out if you're interested.
