hi how is everyone!!!

so i am a big fan of the early Ys games, and I have a soft spot for the first one in particular. i got the pc88 version forever ago on the switch and i liked it so much that i got Ys 2 on there as well. recently i had a birthday and i was given two games as gifts: falcom classics for the sega saturn, and Ys for the famicom. i was super excited obviously because whoa!!! two more versions of Ys, i wonder how they're different? i played the saturn port, and it was very faithful to the original with updated graphics and some quality of life improvements, nothing crazy. famicom Ys is quite possibly the most jarring port of a familiar game i have ever played. the world map is changed entirely, and it took me forever to make my way around the first town area because it was made so much bigger and rearranged???
and now i'm curious. what are games that have the weirdest or most jarring ports to other consoles that you all know of??

I can only think of cross-generation games. Like, back when something licensed would come out on GameBoy Advance, DS, PS2, Gamecube etc. Or when a game would be on both PS2 & PS3. Not all of those versions would be the same, and would often be vastly different

The PAL exclusive Aladdin for NES...Which is a port of the Game Boy version...Which is a port of the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) version.

(There's also the PAL exclusive "Lion King" for NES. It was developed by the same company and was also based on a Game Boy port. But here's the kicker; THE NES VERSION ISN'T EVEN FINISHED! It's missing some levels from the GB version.)

the sims games have many strange ports to handheld consoles, im pretty sure they are mostly bad - terrible.
They are not faithful ports but different games using the same names. However I will American wrestle with anyone who called GBA version of Bustin' Out and Urbz Sims in the City bad games lolol. You may call Sims 2 on GBA bad because it deserves it though ::thumbsupwario .

ohh yea yea i have a distinct memory of playing lego batman i think (star wars maybe?) on the ds as a little kid and being so confused why it wasn't like the wii version

The only weird port that come on my mind is Sonic Unleashed for the JAVA.

Sega, why?
Ah, man. Nokia unleashed N-Gage as "gamer phone" back then and I was kinda hyped to learn about Java games and play them but all I found was rubbish Java ports of so many games they were so unplayable so I bought a GBA for on the go gaming. But Java had non-port decent games like Gravity Defied and Cyberpunk: The Arasaka's Plot which I still play these games. I wish they had GBA ports instead lol.

Doom on ZX Spectrum is as weird as it gets.
zx spectrum ports are crazy in general, one of my favorite arcade games is psycho soldier and the only port around the time it released was zx spectrum, it's unrecognizeable. i like how the doom port looks though lol

Pah!!! The weirdest one is Doom on the glorious pregnancy tester platform!!! lolol

A friend of mine had the GBC version of Daikatana. It was baffling even back then.

The weirdest part is, it isn't even bad. It's just weird.

The Urbz on GBA was fire and I'll debate anyone who says otherwise.
Just kidding, though, you can say otherwise, but just keep in mind that you're wrong.

Well I may agree with its weirdness but in good way. It was still a legend to go to a random island and have an epic violin battle with its resident lol.

I grew up playing the Tony Hawk Underground games on my GBA. its a weird isometric skateboarding game that is actually really fun. Another port that I'm always baffled about is Starcraft on the N64.

Well, butter me up and call me a biscuit—I didn't know there was a StarCraft port for the N64.
A friend of mine had Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the GBC, and for the life of me, I couldn't get used to it. But the fact that it exists is amazing already.

Donkey Kong Country on Game Boy Color. The GBA would be released not too long after it and eventually we did get a GBA version of DKC albeit with the brightness turned all the way up. lol

Bootlegs, man.. Bootlegs all the way.
The ones that come to mind are

NES
Somari
Aladdin
Pokemon Yellow
Final Fantasy 7
Bio-Hazard (Resident Evil)
Mortal Kombat
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country 4
Plants vs Zombies

Super Nintendo
101 Dalmatas
A Bug's Life
Aladdin 2000
Digimon Adventure
Dragon Ball Final Bout
Pocket Monster
Pokemon Stadium

Sega Genesis
Super Mario Bros
Rockman X3
Metal Gear Solid
Smart Mouse

There's lots more, but these are the ones that stood out to me.

John Romero said it was *the* definitive way to play it, too.

Somebody ported Zombies Ate My Neighbors to Doom 2... and it's all kinds of epic.

And Warcraft 2 is on PS1 when I would wish for Starcraft instead lol.

However I kinda remember N64 version of Starcraft had a difference like being able to drop atomic bomb or something, or it was one of my wildest dream lol.

Now I think about it, on PC the feature may be present in a DLC or later updated version of Starcraft but I always played my pirate copy I bought back then that had nothing like it at all, but was so fun in N64 version muhuhahahaha. *he evil laughs while lightnings strikes behind him while he plays Moonlight Sonata* lolol
