While it is like asking about oranges and apples it is sad that Wario Land as it's unique game series has been forgotten and even WarioWare is suffering more than success for past big while. That is to say, from N of now, I would not even be asking for new Wario Land, I will just wishlist Pizza Tower on steam and trust people who say that any Wario Land 4 enjoyer will enjoy it.

My first GameBoy Color game was Wario Land 2 that I 100%:ed eventually if not twice over so I have soft spot for that and pure quality insanity of Wario Land 4, one of few GBA Games "I just have to have" on a cartridge.

Damn it now you made me sad. :(

While I like the multiple micro-games especially the Nintendo ones from WarioWare, I still enjoy the Wario Land series. Mainly because I get to go on adventures while searching for treasure. The WarioWare series is somehow losing fumes, it's time to either make a Wario Land Collection, port Wario Land Shake it on Switch/Switch 2 or create a new Wario Land game with new worlds to visit this time with power-ups.

not being very specific there.
i don't think you can really compare the two. one is typically a platformer, the other is a collection of micro mini-games. both with their own pros and cons.
mario games vs wario games might be a better subject for debate.

asking what the general preference is, do you prefer one or the other?

i can't really say. i've played wario world, warioware smooth moves and i think a few minutes of wario land shake it. i did enjoy the presentation of smooth moves; that narration of the different ways to use the wii remote was amazing. never beat either of those games though.

I love them both but I love WarioWare more. Addictive gameplay, fun characters, huge variety, all the different art styles, catchy music and bonus minigames you could play forever. It's amazing that Wario Land is just as impressive, both series are pure fun and Wario deserves all the praise he gets.

Wario Çands were very creative platformers that were always trying something new(at least the 4 og onesm which were made by the same team, unlike shake it) and both 3 and 4 are among my favorite 2d platformers. Warioware was a very creative concept, principally the first one, but I can't say I particularly care about that series that much... they are fun for sometime, but I never saw those games as top 10 material for their respective consoles.

These days emulating virtual boy is very viable, especially viable if you own a 3DS with 3D (not either 2DS) - People keep saying Virtual Boy Wario Land is one great thing about that system and is a standalone sequel instead of a port that happened before Wario Land 2.

I never cared for the micro-games format of Wario Ware. I miss the Wario Land series and want it to come back. Some may say it is redundant to have both Mario and Wario star in platform games, but if Nintendo payed a little attention to themselves for once, they'd realize that not only are Mario Land and Wario Land vastly different takes on platforming, with Mario using nimble jumps and parkour to get around whereas Wario uses his brute strength. But their power-ups are also different with Mario's power usually being "to his benefit", whereas Wario's "powers" are status ailments the enemies inflict on HIM, like in Wario Land 2 where he could have his rear set on fire, turn into a zombie until getting exposed to light, get swollen up by a bee to fly like a balloon, or even get hammered (literally) to jump like a spring until he hit a ceiling.
These power-ups weren't just unique and came with limitations that forced a kid like me to think somewhat strategically as to how to most efficiently use them - like how to avoid light if I needed to be a zombie, or try to steer clear of ceilings if I needed to be a spring - but they were also funny in how they exaggerated Wario's character. Like, he wasn't just this fat brute of muscles... he could literally be anything; fat, slim, swollen, flat, decaying etc etc.

while you cant really compare the two, i think i do prefer the wario land games as a representation of wario, as opposed to the ware games. while wario isnt really a good guy, the land games still portray him as this buff, greedy powerhouse who can get stuff done (as long as it benefits him in the end.) in comparison, the ware games barely focus on wario at all, and it just portrays him as lazy and greedy.

I've played that one as well. It's technically impressive in some ways, but short and honestly a weaker entry, not because its a bad game, but because its not that interesting even compared to 1, having noticeably less content.

Wario Land personally. I enjoy Wario Ware too, but they weren't my personal introduction to Nintendo the same way Wario was (WL4 was my first GBA game, which was my first own system), but Pizza Tower and Antonblast are carrying the torch masterfully, so I don't lament the absence of Wario adventure games as much these days.

A weird one to ask, for sure as these are two different games. Wario Land is exploration, WarioWare is short microgame frenzy. I would choose both.

This is hard. Wario Land gets REALLY good with 4. 1-3 are all good games, but they aren't all timers. WarioWare has more variety, but less consistency. Several games just don't feel very special, and there's some downright bad games in the mix as well. I just wish Nintendo had really kept going with the Wario Land 4 direction, as that clearly had more potential to it (as shown by Pizza Tower and Anton Blast). A crazy, fast paced, explorative platformer with an emphasis on chaos and form change puzzles could've been amazing.

In spite of this all, I think most of the Wario Land games before 4 are mighty underrated. Especially 1, which might just be my favorite GameBoy platformer.

I'll be honest: I am not fan of the slowness of the first Wario Land and I am less fan of the later Warioware being "too polished" for what the franchise is meant to be.

My two favourite Wario games are Land 4 and Ware, Inc. simply because of how they are unique compared to the rest of the franchise.

Gold felt a bit too smooth when it's about Wario making cheap as hell games.

And even Ware is being made by indies

I love both but I prefer Wario Land. At least Wario Land hasn't been milked to death like WarioWare series has. Also Wario has much better personality in Wario Land series than in WarioWare series. Still I would love even one new Wario Land game or even a remake of Virtual boy Wario Land (not making one for 3DS was a huge crime).
