I'm curious to see what video games actually made it to the big screen and did it right, could be anime, live action, a movie series, doesn't matter, just bring up some of your favorites!

Personal favorite of mine was gun grave! instead of just adapting the bare bones story of the game, it went and gave it an entire in-depth backstory fleshing out the conflicts of the characters as well as adding new ones that made the story much more enjoyable and dramatic.

Obligatory:
- Fallout TV
- Twisted Metal TV
- Angry Birds Movie 1
- Gran Turismo Movie
- Rampage Movie
- Resident Evil: Welcome to the Raccoon City Movie
I wanna say The Last of Us too but I don't actually like the source much so the adaptation is just whatever to me.

Kirby Kirby Kirby! He's the star of the show!

Jokes aside, Kirby Right Back at Ya is a solid anime. It's not 1 to 1 with the games but this anime released when the only frame of reference for an actual story was checks notes Adventure, Dream Land 2, Dream Land 3, Super Star, and 64. Three of those have practically non existent storylines, no wonder they deviated.

Sonic X for all its flaws isn't bad. Chris is overhated imo. He's mildly annoying but IDK I like him better than the cop in the Sonic Movies. I like the idea of the rich kid with neglectful parents with shit else to do, so he latches onto the random ass thing that came into his life. And honestly, that's a perfect reason for his S3 selfishness.

Sonic OVA is great and I'm tired of saying otherwise. Other than dated jokes common in anime around that time and the lack of a story, it captures CD's vibe pretty well. It feels like more a Sonic adaptation than our current Sonic movies tbh. Those movies don't even got the actual locations besides some names and generic backgrounds that you can only theorise is Ice Cap Zone (ignoring all the structures that Ice Cap has)

Darkstalkers OVA is far and away the best adaptation of Darkstalkers

Mega Man Ruby Spears for the memes, Mega Man NT Warrior for the serious pick

Day of Sigma is great. Explains a lot that happens in X1.

Gunvolt had a one shot OVA based on the beginning of the game and I wish it got picked up for a full run cause that shit was awesome

Arcane

Cyberpunk Edgerunners

Speed Racer: The Movie is a cult classic now. People despised it back then and love it now. Me personally, this fills me with joy cause I always loved this movie.

All of Pokemon's movies fit right in to the anime

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (is this cheating?)

Alita: Battle Angel

Viewtiful Joe anime is actually really good.

The first Silent Hill movie is alright. At least does a good job capturing the atmosphere of the games.
The second movie is terrible.

Super Mario World the TV show! Pretty cheesy but super nostalgic, it had Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, Yoshi, and who could forget the iconic Mario character Oogtar!

Weirdly, the latest Tomb Raider show on Netflix (which is canonical?) ended up being what was being advertised since the very first game in the Survivor series, back in 2013. We get to see Lara Croft become what she was set to become, but never got to in-game: someone with actual character flaws to overcome. The dual pistols almost felt like fanservice at that point, but damn if the series doesn't make the addition worth it.

Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, had some really good elements from the game. Despite being very cheesy. Super Show was mostly based on Super Mario Bros. 2 than the first Super Mario Bros., Adventures of Mario 3 and Mario world would get half of it right by utilizing the powerups and setting from the games.

Kirby anime is based on Kirby's Adventure/Dreamland 2/Superstar/Dreamland 3/64 and later Nightmare in Dreamland which was a GBA remake of Kirby's Adventure.

Pac-Man 1982 cartoon has some good elements from the games which later got a game of its own called Pac-Land.

Sonic X has elements from Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 despite Chris being in it.
idk what this is sonic the hedgehog GIF

I've mentioned a few in an article before, so let's go with a slightly different choice: Gangs of London!

Did y'all know this was a video game series? I heard about it through some action movie lovers, and did a trial for AMC+ to try watching it. It's a *super* gritty gangster drama, with enough gunfights and ass-beatings to get John Woo to full mast.

It's a bit annoying to find and watch in the States though, or at least it was a couple years ago.

Street Fighter V was pretty boss. Same goes for the OG Street Fighter animated movie. Chun-Li fending off Vega inside her apartment while KMFDM rips in the background will never not get my blood a' pumpin' ?

I really enjoyed the three Fatal Fury OVAs from back in the day, too. Especially the second one, and the "Motion Picture."

It's a bit of a tangent - and the reverse of what you asked - but I loved Area 88, once I found out it was the basis for what I knew as UN Squadron on the Super Nintendo. So many games that I played back in the day were based on anime or manga properties, re-titled and re-packaged for the US market. It was quite fun to take a trip through the video store and see tapes for The Professional and Fist of the North Star, and think to myself, "They made a cartoon out of that game??"

Oh, to be young again ?

Scott pilgrim is never cheating.
Besides on knives lol

I really liked the anime adaption of Ace Attorney actually.
It's actually pretty damn faithful to the source material.
Most people simply don't like it because they already consumed and liked the trashy Japanifornia localization one so they just can't understand all the chock obvious Japanese jokes and puns there.

I immediately thought of the Persona 3 movies

The movies rush some things but they are a great adaptation nonetheless.

This is really carried by the /s
There isn't enough alcohol in the world to get me to lie and pretend the Double Dragon was anything other than turbo mid lol

Can't even say that was a guilty pleasure for me, because that honor goes to Hackers.
