PSP Update on My PS Vita Repair

So As Said In My First Thread Post I Started To Work On My First Vita Repair. Its a 1000 model with the 3g installed.
When I received the console it had no outer screws and no bumper button but everything else was together untouched. After going through and checking out everything on the console it seemed to be fine. Every Resistor had proper continuity and the board didn't seem to be shorted so i decide to plug in the charger. This would be the point where I find out why the console was deemed as broken. The charger struggled to go in and struggled to come out which I thought was a Immediate red flag so I look at the charger port pins and BROOOO. The charger port was just beyond repairable. Every Pin inside was just bend to all hell or just broken/missing. It was like someone took their charger and just cowboy rope swung the vita across their house and yanked the cord out breaking it.
MY FIRST THOUGHT:
WHY DID SONY PUT THESE PORTS ON A HANDHELD CONSOLE. These ports literally look doomed to fail. I sent a picture of the port to my dad who is a CNC electrical engineer and told him "Look how F up this port is" and his first response was "why the hell would they put that specific port on a console like that in the first place" which confirmed my point also.
I don't understand why Sony didn't put USB-C on them like THE TECHNOLOGY WAS THERE AT THAT TIME or REUSE THE PSP PORTS SINCE MANY PEOPLE STILL HAD THEM AT TAHAT TIME ALSO.
To Conclude:
I just ordered a replacement port and I am gonna solder a new one on but I wonder if I Should just order the USB-C Mod they have for the vita and just put that on instead of the OEM Port
 
USB C didn't exist until 2014, the Vita came out in 2012. Micro USB was what was common back then, the Vita 2000 actually does use Micro USB. Why they designed a proprietary charging port instead of using Micro USB on the original model is beyond me though. They made a lot of bizarre choices with the Vita, the proprietary memory cards and back touchpad are two more questionable design decisions.

A lot of people blame the memory cards for being the cause of the Vita's failure but I don't actually think that's the case, though it certainly didn't help. I think Sony had a serious problem with resource allocation and it's a problem they are continuing to struggle with today. The ballooning development cost, increase in dev time and increase in dev team size on PS4 meant Sony just did not have resources for a dedicated handheld that needed its own games tailor made for it.

Great that you're working on repairing these consoles. Keeping old consoles alive is so important and there's still so much fun to be had on the Vita. Handheld consoles specifically offer an experience that is impossible to completely replicate using traditional means of emulation.

Yikes, though. Makes ya wonder what TF actually happened to the thing.

If it's not too much a pain, could we get snapshots of the repair? I'm so very interested.
 
nice, i got both models, one immaculate oled and a slim, i had to replace the right analog and im waiting for the battery replacement on the slim as well, its fun to do this lol
