Earlier I was tarring my roof, but before that I was playing Visions of Mana and thinking about the Journey of Alms, and started trying to think of other ritual-esque things in games. I know I know more but I never really lined them up before so they’re kinda scattered in my headz. Some more obvious ones would be the sending in FFX or the hero in green clothes in Zelda, any come to mind? Take the definition any way you want.

The Fallout series is chock full of odd rituals. One that springs to mind is a group of civil Ghouls in New Vegas that believe in an abandoned, radioactive test rocket as their ark to their very own Promised Land in outer space, I guess.
You help them "repair" it and it blows up the whole clan.

Haha I remember that cause I wasn’t totally sure what was gonna happen, and then… well I just slowly walked out of there…

Now that I think about Fallout, Torment Tides of Numenera was full of them too, it’s been a while since I played it one that comes to mind is the stuff the Dendra O’Hur do.

Most Fatal Frame games revolved around some ritual, the masks in lunar eclipse and Mt.Hikami in Black Water.

Lots of RPGs revolve around magic stones and nature spirits too.

And my favourite game FFXIII has the L’Cie branding, and by connecting crystallization and going Cieth.

I guess in FFVII Aerith praying and her holy materia activating was like a really spread out ritual? Unless it activated not because of the praying.

I guess there’s like single performance things that give a result and then there’s long term behaviour things that maybe is more like a tradition? Maybe that’s splitting hairs though.
