"Headed by Foxbat CEO Tatsunori Mano, Unholy Night: The Darkness Hunter was created by former SNK members who worked on several fighting game franchises, being first launched through Kickstarter but failed to meet its crowdfunding goal before Retroism acquired the publishing rights for release". (bit from wikipedia page) It wasn't re-released anywhere after the 2017 cartridges, but you still can find it in some online stores like PixelHeart or with some second hand sellers.

Never have I wanted a game to suck less than Unholy Knight. I don't doubt these guys know how to make a fighter, but they definitely don't know how to work with the SNES. Most likely written in C and not 65816 assembly, with rudimentary music and a UI that's somehow both cramped and sparse that makes this feel like a GBA game, especially with the scale of the sprites. An honest game like this wasn't out to get anyone, you simply just don't make a SNES fighting game in 2017 to screw people out of a quick buck. I'd love for this to get the Dan-Ku-Ga treatment and get reworked from the ground up, the story's too cool and the artwork is too fun to let it go to waste. Rip up the carpets, pull out the copper wiring, whatever you gotta do. I can so very clearly see the good game this was supposed to be.

I remember the announcement of this and it's release. It's by no means awful but it is very limited in terms of variety with only 6 characters and everything looks so small made even worse by the huge black borders on the top and bottom in order to make it run a a somewhat decent speed which was common with fighting games at the time.

It does seem to have that Guilty Gear look to it in the character artwork and they are pretty good it just the backgrounds are fairly poor in comparison. It is good that someone put this much effort into a SNES game though which seeming doesn't get much attention from the homebrew community.

Just loaded it on snes9x and it loaded on widescreen with blackbars, I don't know if this was the intended look or the emulator, so I had to play around with the scalling. It's bad but a lot of snes fighting games were like this, like Ranma, the TMNT and Power Ranger ones. I'm going to play a bit more because the art reminds me of UNIB, Spectral Generations and even the first Guilty Gear, but like made on 1994.

I finally gave this a try, I dunno why the comments section's acting like this is some kind of a slop, it plays fine, controls are responsive, hit and collision detection work well, I'd even go and say it plays a lot better than the original Street Fighter of which Capcom actually sells... for money.

The only criticism I have is it runs a bit slow, I feel this game should run twice the speed, maybe someone can make a speed up hack? However, I understand for a game made by ex SNK employees I expect better quality, this is mediocre.

On a side note, the final boss can go jump off a cliff, I lost all of my continues and I only managed to win one single match.

Played this last night and like others have said, the game looks really cool but plays like those old bootleg fighters where the movement and control just feels super off and choppy. Still an interesting piece of history and worth at least a few minutes of playing.

Looks kinda SNK - Arc System Works. I understand it's SNES but even Cross bearing Reinhardt isn't appealing to me. And fanservice is out of the question certainly.
Cool, but not for me. Even though, thank you guys for bringing it in and your efforts.

God Bless.
