What are some turn-based RPGs with a timing element, like in Super Mario RPG?

(For those who haven't played it, in Super Mario RPG, you can time a button press for each attack—both yours and your enemies'—to increase attack or boost defense upon success.)

Any excuse to mention this hidden gem✌️

Out of curiosity, how is the co-op in this game? It looks cool and I could maybe get a friend to play along . . . maaaybe even two friends.

Thanks to everyone else for the other suggestions as well!
I'm a bit ashamed to say that I never tried the multiplayer 😓

But it might make for a fun little adventure if you and your buddies go into it blind. If you do, let us know how it turns out!

( Now that I think of it, we were FAR too busy playing Phantasy Star Online back in the Gamecube days to really give many other multiplayer games a shot 😇 )

"Exist Archive" for PSVita and some other console too, it reminds of Valkyrie because it's 2d / platform with battles in 3d (just look some gameplay videos to understand better, I've enjoyed it on Vita).

I really mean any kind of timing mechanic in a turn-based RPG, but Super Mario RPG is the one I had in mind. Its timing mechanic works by pressing (not holding) a button in a specific window during an attack animation.

Yeah, that is exactly how Squall's gunblade criticals work.
