I'm going to post a lot of things on the English-speaking forum
If you write and ask questions, everyone's reactions are quite
It's pleasant and nice.
This is not the case at all in the Korean forum (which is called a community in Korea).
Many Korean forum users criticize and downplay others
The desperate, anonymous forums are basically personal attacks

I think it depends above all on the experience and degree of open-mindedness of each individual or group.

If it is a mentality based on cooperation, mutual aid and peaceful respect for various opinions, then it becomes fertile ground for sharing, improving oneself and improving those who share the same joys and sorrows of life.

If, on the other hand, it is based on oppression, deception, the continuous pouring of frustrations and aggression on others (regardless of where one is born, grows up and comes from), then it can only lead to more frustration.

It is therefore easy to hypothesize, even a type of environment (or community), which in the long run becomes toxic both for one's personal growth and for the communicative bond that should characterize that specific environment (or community).

From my personal point of view (and from my experience), I can certainly say that I am an individual who tends to let others know. (It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or what you do)

Knowing, not as a forced instillation of an idea (being "better" or "less good" for example) and/or a form of entertainment, but as curiosity.

That natural curiosity, which pushes us all to understand what surrounds us.

The same natural curiosity, with which we learn growing up, to carve out a space for creative imagination.

A place like this (among the many in the digital network), gives us the opportunity to be ourselves and to cultivate that healthy passion that for our awareness, we call Retrogaming.

I like europe, european people and I am one but the sensibilities that people might associate with polite society over here have been eroded over the years and frankly aren't entirely unique to us. Places like the UK have long ceased to be idyllic. In fact it's a hellscape. It's more about the size of the community and the people (as well as the moderaters) that participate in it, Retrogametalk is a nice place because Spike (and the mods) are nice people and it's a niché hobby site that attracts passionate people.

Same reason back in the day MMORPGs used to cap the server population to a few thousand people, the smaller a community you have the easier to manage it is, the more value each individual has and the more you rely on each other. We're not just nameless, faceless, people in an atomized mega city but a small cosy idyllic village. Look at what has happened to imageboards (or any community that's become mainstream), sites like 2chan and 4chan used to be a fairly niche places and the quality of the posts was far better for it. Now it's a slough. And the main language spoken there is English.

I don't like gatekeeping or needless elitism but ultimately a small healthy amount of it is needed to keep the community a kind place, just enough moderation to punish people being horrid and a set of standards we all hold each other too. Whether that's not ninja looting an item in a game or expecting people to be civil (and act like adults) when they're disagreeing with each other. Just like any country expects people moving there to follow their rules, values and respect their customs.

Maybe it all depends on attention, vigilance and being responsible.

To be brief, this community is very young (it was born as a child, in fact), it will be up to each of us to ensure that it does not become chaos. (an ugly, obese and bad adult)

To make people understand that it is a place that recalls the "square" or the Agorà, where people gathered to learn.

Everything is always based on the beginning (on the foundations).

If the foundations are made of solid rock (young and old users, but who care about the fate and vicissitudes of a place like this) the structure will withstand even the most violent storms.

It will therefore come naturally, a natural propensity to care for and defend what is beautiful. (the users, the forum and what they share)

After all, this is the meaning of a community;

- a small oasis in the midst of the chaos of a desert.

English is basically a highly simplified Latin language.

That is why it is very easy to learn.

But it is ONLY for direct communication.

Each Language HAS its own History, Culture and Traditions. (Which MUST be preserved)

There is NO "coolest" language, there are many wonderful languages richly steeped in the history of the peoples of this world.

I'm inclined to agree... may write about it in greater detail at some point, but my first multiplayer experience was on an English game at a time when I couldn't speak the language... and their forums were full of insults towards me and other foreigners. They even made up their own Spanish insults XD

That´s the attitude, honestly yeah, forums like this is were you filter the good and bad apples, because most bad apples avoid forums like these because first, you must behave(witch is easy btw, everyone is cool here), and second you at least must know a little bit of the topic that comprises this forum, retro games, then you are good to go, honestly it´s easy.

English is a germanic Language with MANY adopted Words from Latin and its follow up romance Languages with a messed up Spelling.

I would say it depends what your native Language is, to say how easy it is.
For Speakers of other germanic Languages, it would be easier if english would still use "Thou". Just compare with german:
What hast thou done?
Was hast du getan?

What have you done?
Was haben Sie getan?"

Romance Speakers have the Advantage of knowing many of the Vocabulary.

But i agree with your Statement :)

To the Topic itself.
As bigger a Forum or Community becomes, the more you will have People acting nasty.

If i don't remember wrongly, People can remember and manage a Community of about 300 People and they will behave better, as everybody knows each other.

That is why there is a Tendency that Rules/Laws become stricter by high Populations.

I'm not sure if it was because I was wearing a football top or if he was just out of his mind, but you get some absolute weirdos who have no public / social etiquette or decency.
