Overall the main-genres of metal is Heavy , Death , Black and Thrash . There is also doom metal , Power metal , Pagan metal and such but either these can be subjectivly seen as own Metal genres or Sub-genres of the main ones . But this is now more music-theory . Grindcore , metalcore , Deathcore and such are on the Punk / Hardcore-punk genre . That is another can of worms that im not so knowledgable about but those have elements of the metal-genres but in its hardcore-punk spin . I hope i could help out a bit . Alot is music-theory but interesting to look up and chaotic to put Bands/Songs into a genre . The best is to have few friends to talk about it and let the theories go loose . [/QUOTE]
