For anyone unaware, Nintendo recently released a music streaming app (a little late to the party, but whatever) exclusively for their own music. The app is only available to use if you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

While the app itself is perfectly functional, the launch library leaves a bit to be desired, and the lack of any composer credits, at least for the moment, is pretty frustrating. There's also the question of how frequently the library will get updated. Are we gonna have to wait six months only to get a four-song OST?

Obviously, there's also a discussion to be had about Nintendo's scummy tactics when it comes to publishing their music, but that's nothing new. I'd like to see what people think about it! ::biggrin

I'm not against Nintendo branching out this much... I just feel like they are super late to the party. This was pretty useless by 2010, and it hasn't gained any momentum since. Not without their music being everywhere.

Nintendo isn't what they used to be. Just doing the bare minimum on every front. I had the Ninendo Switch Subscription for a month and cancelled it because they never updated their library of games. They just tried to upsell a premium subscription. And their attitude towards emulation, youtube streamers and romhacking is appalling.

The lack of credits is obnoxious.
Potentially having high (highest?) quality tracks from the source is pretty damn cool. The recorded music, anyways.
But the lack of content makes sense for N. They typically like to roll out releases of things slowly.
Doesn't make it any less annoying, lol. Just makes sense for them 🤣
Seems more like an account perk than a standalone product or service.🤔

Big suits at nintendo have to loose their ties a bit because oxygen is not reaching their brains. They honestly think that adding their music to an app tied to a paid service is a good deal at all when their music has been free on the internet since forever? I hope they don't start nuking youtube channels over this.

I got a Spotify ad for it today, and wondered "What's the point when all the Nintendo OSTs are already on Spotify or YouTube?"

The service is pointless and another cash-grab attempt by Nintendo. They're at least a decade late to the music-streaming party.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was just the "front" for making copyright bids against those channels seem less egregious.

I remember how they had to back out from those pursuits really early into YouTube's existence because they were targeting stuff like Smosh's parody of the Pokemon theme song and people weren't all that happy about it.

Leave it to Nintendo to try to solve a problem in the least convenient and most ineffective way possible...

I feel I might be attacked but it was pretty HYPE when I saw the announcement.
I use the base subscription for NSO and it being included for free... eh, it's cool I like it. Not like I'm paying any extra y'know?

The way they plan to Slowly drip feed content for it is really dumb it turns what would be a nice little bonus for NSO subscribers into an insulting waste of time.

"Oh Boy I cant wait for them to drip feed people random songs from random games for the next 5 to 7 years without actually releasing the stuff people really want to listen to before unceremoniously abandoning the app altogether" said no one ever

I think its far too little far to late, my mind might change if they released the soundtrack of their biggest new releases simultaneously on the app when they come out going forward or something similar though
