I would like to say that my opinions are based off the snippets of the direct i have watched i wasn't awake when the direct was live. I didn't have the chance to watch the full direct yet so if i get anything wrong then my bad. Also i'm mostly rambling so everything here may be scattery.

Personally i like the idea but i'm worried about the longevity of this game compare to other mario karts.

Im feeling like this game won't have a huge competitive fanbase due to all the changes they made and how possibly unfriendly it could be for tournaments. The cup system seems like it has been totally reworked with instead of you picking what cup you want or course you have to drive their. Unless there's a fast travel system (which may be part of the VS race option) or even better a system where you can just simply pick the cup/course and play from their like in all other mario kart games, it will be a pain to drive every time to a specific course every time, especially in a tournament.

The free roaming system is extremely cool i will admit but i'm worried people will find shortcuts that would one-up any shortcut that could be possible in the other mario kart games that will skip huge portions of the levels and are extremely hard to do. This will potentially cause a curve that will alienate new competitive players when playing against others. I hope Nintendo realizes this and offers a mode that has a fixed pathway to follow like other mario kart games. The rewind feature also seems like overkill.

However if you are not that much of a competitive player (like me) then i think it would be alright. Though even then i wish they had a "classic" mode where you pick the cup and course like other mario kart games and follow a fixed pathway.

Overall i think the game is neat and could be fun to play through however i dont think its buying a new video game console worthy especially if the game is more expensive which it will most likely be.

Idk, maybe there's not much you can do in a karting game.
But to me it feels like Mario Kart 8 all over again.
I don't know how many more times I can do the exact same thing.

It looks good, I like the grinding and wall riding, but the open world stuff looks like it was added merely as a feature to tout instead of something that has much to offer. From what I've seen, the world looks pretty empty and you're just riding through emptiness from race to race.

Looks great to me but I would only get in the bundle where it's the equivalent of $50. I would not pay $80.

I think it looks very different from 8.

It look unfinished to be honest i think the game is being rushed to release during the switch 2. Some open world aspects they showed off looked like they just put a mario kart character in those basic unity 3d grass fields like this.

Honestly also part of issue i have is that they don't make that much changes to the actual race but they make everything else too different from other mario kart games. At least in a competitive environment.

What made all the Mario kart games fun in a competitive environment is consistency with each other. Of course each Mario kart game had differences however the general aspects stayed the same. Same idea is also with games like with smash bros.

I'm fine with all these changes and new ideas if they have the option to play how every other mario kart game played.

But however as it stands with no option to play like how every other mario kart game played. this game will probably be popular for like a year maximum and fade into obscurity. The competitive section of a fanbase is what keeps games alive and fresh. If you change how everything functions then people will just continue playing Mario Kart 8. Especially since it seems like they removed the ability to customize your kart and that theirs no new quirks from the last mario kart game in the actual races besides tracks supposedly transitioning better plus all the other issues i've listed on top.

It honestly seems like they change or added things literally no one asked for and while its neat they exist it just seems like a excuse to not add something new in the actual races.

I think the open world feels kind of like unnecessary bloat (and I like open world), but I think the rest of the game looks good.
